CUP tops the list in the MCS Challenge 2008
Friday 28. November 2008 - Cambridge University Press is the winner of this years PaperCo MCS (Maine, Chromomat and Satimat) Challenge, awarded for the most outstanding or creative use of any of these top class coated art stocks. This book was produced using Satimat 130gsm for the text pages supplied by PaperCos Masons Paper division.
CUPs submission was for The National Health Service, a book celebrating the NHSs 60th anniversary, and was selected because it produced consistently excellent quality throughout all 620pp of text, including both colour and black and white work. The firms prize for winning the PaperCo Challenge competition is a week for two in a spa hotel in the Algarve.
Second prize, a weekend break in Venice, went to Allander Press in Edinburgh, a customer of Donald Murray Paper, for its production of the Scottish Seabirds Centre Guide, a publication any visitor would be proud to have as a reminder of their visit. It features vibrant colours, sharp contrast and fine details, notably in the feathers, but also good solids. The publication used Maine front to back, 250gsm for the cover and 150gsm for the text.
Quirkiest of the top three prizes was the Getty Images Mood pack with badges stickers and postcards in a box designed by Build. The cards were produced on Satimat 400gsm. They were printed by Generation Press on a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52-5 B3 press and laminated and UV varnished. For the labels Fasson material was used and the badges and the box were produced using paper-lined greyboard.
