Mohawk Show 9 Catalog Highlights Winners of Its Design and Printing Competition

Friday 14. November 2008 - Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. [Graph Expo Booth #1371] has released its Mohawk Show 9 Catalog along with the list of Show 9 winners. The catalog is produced annually as a way to showcase the extraordinary design and production of the winning entries of its Mohawk Show design competition.

Mohawk Show 9 received entries from around the globe. From these entries, five Best of Show winners were selected (see attached photographs and credits). The printers who produced the five winning pieces are: Earth Enterprise, New York, NY, for Interface Folio No.1 for Best of Show in this year’s special category of Small Design Firm; Geographics, Atlanta, GA, for HERE No.3 The Cooper Carry Magazine; Hatcher Press Inc., San Carlos, CA, for Impact 2008 High School Campaign; Prestone Printing, Long Island City, NY, for The Drawing Papers 2007-2008; and Beacon Press, London, UK, for Plain English. In addition to the five Best of Show winners, 20 finalists were also named (see the complete list of finalists attached).

For two days, this year’s jury reviewed more than 1,200 entries. The esteemed panel of judges for Show 9 were designers: Sam Shelton (show chair), Kinetik, Washington, DC; Bart Crosby, Crosby Associates, Chicago, IL; Debbie Millman, Sterling Brands, New York, NY; and Mick Hodgson, Ph.D, Santa Monica, CA.

Laura Shore, Mohawk’s Senior Vice President of Communications and Innovation Strategies, attributes each year’s impressive number of entries and continued quality of work to the show’s reputation for recruiting top industry professionals to judge the competition and for acknowledging outstanding work each year. “We are heading into our tenth year of the Mohawk Show. Each year of the show has seen growth in quantity and quality and each year we continue to be honored by the level of design and production we are seeing produced on Mohawk papers.”

Of the collection of entries submitted, juror Debbie Millman says, “Anyone who thinks that print is dead needs to look at this show. Not only is it not dead, it’s not even waning … it’s alive and better than ever. This is an exceptional collection of pieces. I haven’t seen this quality of work in any show I’ve judged before.”
