Specialty Print Shop Reaps the Benefits of New Technology from Suprasetter Platesetter
Thursday 06. November 2008 - When it needed to upgrade its prepress facility, Cambridge Pacific, a specialty printer of packets, envelopes and labels in northeast New York, turned to Heidelberg and installed a new Suprasetter A105 platesetter.
“We compared it to everything else in the marketplace,” said Chris Belnap, the companys owner. “The number one factor for us in choosing the Suprasetter was the new technology it brought to our shop. The Suprasetter has a number of features – such as larger depth-of-field, which keeps focusing from becoming an issue – which older machines lack. Also, the laser doesnt burn out as often because of the Suprasetters energy-efficient design – the laser is only on when imaging a plate.” The shop is running Heidelberg Saphira Thermoplate PN plates on its Suprasetter. Cambridge Pacific specializes in printing for the horticultural industry, including seed packets and horticulture catalogues. The shop runs “a little bit of everything,” from fly fishing leaders to the two area magazines it publishes. With a history dating back more than 50 years, the shop has grown to more than 30 employees since Belnap bought the company 18 years ago. “We are experiencing a significant increase in productivity with our new platesetter,” Belnap said. “The quality is great. It prints very, very clean and has been a terrific machine for us.” In addition to the new platesetter, the shop also runs a 6-color Speedmaster SM 102 press and a POLAR cutter.
