Wednesday 29. October 2008 - Ratcliff & Roper is taking its fifth Printmaster QM46-2 portrait press in five years. Its managing director Kevin White describes this press as "very robust and competitively priced".

A service provider to the health service, Ratcliff & Roper offers an online ordering facility which enables hospitals or other health outlets to call off forms or stationery, delivering to anywhere in the UK within 24 hours. It is for this relatively recession-proof business that the new press is required.

The QM 46s run alongside two B2 presses, a Speedmaster SM 74-5+L and an SM 74-2. The full colour press is primarily for commercial work, the two-colour for batched jobbing business. It also offers a new digital and large format service.

Ratcliff & Roper, which has plants in Worksop and Nottingham, looked at alternatives to the QM 46. “We came back to Heidelberg because we believe the QM 46 is not only the best in its class but is also cost effective for the 100 to 5,000 print work that we typically run,’’ says Mr White.

A £1.9m turnover company employing 37 staff, Ratcliff & Roper achieved growth of 1.8% last year, and is on target for 1.9% this year and hopes next year to top the £2m turnover mark. It has recently rebranded its logo to give it a fresher look. It has used R&R but there is definitely no “rest and recuperation” for this proactive printer.
