THP serving throughout the US market

Tuesday 28. October 2008 - After thorough research THP made a decisive choice for Drent Goebel’s Vision. "Today’s customers are demanding higher and higher print quality and very competitive pricing. In order to meet these demands, we began looking at new press technology that would allow us to react appropriately and offer us a more efficient method of production", says Bruce Wilson, President of Thorn Hill Printing.

Thorn Hill Printing, Inc (THP) is located in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pa and was started in 1986. It initially produced direct mail and business forms products. Over the years, THP has concentrated more on direct mail and commercial print and today that accounts for 100 percent of its business. Nowadays, it services customers throughout the US market.

Currently THP has four web presses ranging from four to eight colors and is interested in expanding its services to the market it serves. With the ever-increasing emphasis on ‘high quality’ printing and the fast turnaround that the market demands, it was necessary to look at improved technology to meet these needs.

After thorough research THP made a decisive choice for Drent Goebel’s Vision. Bruce Wilson: “During our search, we looked at other press manufacturers to determine which press platform would meet our requirements. Our criteria were to find a press that provided the most efficient job make-readies, the highest print quality and inline finishing features that improved our throughput.”

Thorough analysis
“During our investigative process, we found the Drent Goebel organization to be more than a typical ‘sales driven’ company”, comments Tom Drechsler, Operations Manager of THP. “Our Sales Manager, Drew Kurak, acted in a consultative capacity and assisted us in the proper selection of ‘state of the art’

controls systems on the press that include ‘closed loop’ color, register and video controls.

Our selection of these control systems, in combination with the excellent web tension control that the Vision press provides due to the servo-drive press platform, delivers excellent dot reproduction and print registration.”

THP began its search last spring to find the print platform that best suited its needs. Bruce Wilson: “Our research included press demonstrations in production environments using Drent Goebel and three other press manufacturers. After five months of research we concluded that the Vision press by Drent Goebel best satisfied the needs of the company and the present and future needs of our customers.” Drechsler ends: “We felt that the Drent Goebel Vision press outperformed the competitive offerings in all facets of the make-ready process and print performance.”
