ORIS Soft Proof at JC Penney gains Golden Cylinder Awards for RR Donnelley and Quebecor
Tuesday 28. October 2008 - JCPenney adopts ORIS Soft Proof workflow from creation to production
The Gravure Association of America has bestowed 2008 Golden Cylinder Awards to RR Donnelley and Quebecor for the production of JCPenney catalogs using ORIS Soft Proof from CGS Publishing Technologies International.
JCPenney has adopted the ORIS Soft Proof workflow with Eizo CG221 monitors and ORIS Certified Monitor certification software to streamline print file production, minimize costs, save materials and energy and incorporate color copy and layout changes to shorten the creative and pre-production process. Final certified PDF files are submitted to the printing plants where tests charts and spectrophotometers are used for a close color match on press to the local certified monitors.
The Gravure Association of America conducts the Annual Golden Cylinder Awards Competition to promote the gravure process and to provide peer recognition for technical achievement. The competition is designed to identify the “Best of the Best” in each segment of the industry and to distinguish technical innovations and recognized JCPenneys printers in two segments:
Technical Innovation Press, Product: JCPenney Soft Proof Catalog, submitted by RR Donnelley Warsaw
Designer: JCPenney Media LP, Separator: JC Penney Color Systems: Engraver and Printer, RR Donnelley Warsaw, Press Manufacturer: KBA, Ink: Flint Group
and

“We are honored to be featured in two Golden Cylinder Awards from this most prestigious organization.” said Trevor Haworth, CEO of CGS Publishing Technologies International, “Soft proofing really shows its true value to the whole printing and publishing industry, not only in savings in proofing materials and freight, but also in shortening the upstream process through quicker and more accurate design decisions taken at the creative stage. JCPenney has shown the way forward with a totally soft proof creation-to-production catalog”
