EFI Unveils New PrintSmith MIS at Graph Expo

Tuesday 28. October 2008 - New Version has Enhancements for Display Graphics, Web-to-Print and FSC Certification Assistance

EFI (Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today introduced the upcoming version of PrintSmith at its Graph Expo booth 2000 (through Oct. 29, McCormick Place). EFI PrintSmith is a flexible, feature rich print management information system and the market leading solution for on-demand, copy shop, quick printer and small commercial shops. EFI is showing new enhancements in version 8.1 including Web-to-Print integration, expanded wide-format capabilities, and Forrest Stewardship Council certification.

“The printing industry is an evolving one, so it’s critical that management systems keep pace with new trends and opportunities,” said Marc Olin, senior vice president/general manager, EFI Advanced Professional Print Software (APPS). “The enhancements to PrintSmith are critical to a competitive business’s ability to capitalize on new niches and opportunities – which is even more important in today’s challenging economic market.”

With this release, PrintSmith is integrated with Digital StoreFront (DSF), adding the power and flexibility of EFI’s award-winning Web-to-Print tools to give clients and prospects a new front door to the print service provider’s business. Now, jobs created in DSF flow into PrintSmith and generate an order, streamlining the order process and eliminating errors. PrintSmith continues to integrate directly with EFI Fiery-driven output devices for job ticketing and data collection, allowing even greater productivity improvements.

The forthcoming version has expanded wide and superwide format business management capabilities including support for ridged substrates, linear finishing, and Fiery XF production integration, providing process and profit improvement potential for operations expanding or adding wide format printing capabilities.

Version 8.1 also has Forrest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for management and delivery of FSC conforming jobs. Now print service providers can grow revenue by supporting their clients’ efforts to reduce their environmental impact.

“There is nothing we produce that can’t be addressed using PrintSmith,” said David Perlman, owner of Action Graphics. “The program handles our digital and wide format needs with ease. It allows us to quickly estimate a job. Once we determine the best piece of equipment to run it on, we can move a job from press to digital with just the click of a button. After the job is in production I can get the status right from my desktop. Along with all this is a data package that helps us manage our business more effectively. We have only been using PrintSmith for a short time, but I can already see that it will keep Action Graphics in touch with our business.”
