Canon U.S.A. and EFI Announce Fiery-Driven Servers for New Canon Black-and-White imagePRESS Digital Presses

Tuesday 28. October 2008 - Canon U.S.A., Inc. and EFI (Nasdaq: EFII) today announced the Fiery-driven imagePRESS Server J100 and imagePRESS Server J200 designed specifically for the new Canon imagePRESS 1135/1125/1110 black-and-white digital presses. The new Fiery-driven Canon servers feature superior image quality, powerful productivity and variable data printing capabilities, extensive make-ready tools, and seamless workflow integration.

The imagePRESS Server J100 and imagePRESS Server J200 support high-volume, high-production market segments with scalable tools that fit anywhere from departmental printing to in-plant/corporate reprographic departments. The imagePRESS Server J100 is a powerful foundation Fiery with flexibility to expand with optional packages as the customer’s needs grow. The imagePRESS Server J200 is a high-end, full-featured server ideal for production environments requiring a more robust solution including EFI Impose and EFI Compose make-ready capabilities. Both servers have optional industry-leading VDP workflow and intuitive controls that enable optimum image quality and speed.

“Canon is pleased to introduce a new line-up of powerful black-and-white imagePRESS engines to meet the evolving needs of our customers in the commercial print, quick print, CRD and creative graphic arts markets,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president, Canon U.S.A. “Driven by feature-packed EFI Fierys, these solutions will enable our customers to reduce turn-around times and costs while increasing productivity and profits.”

“Customers who choose a Fiery-driven Canon imagePRESS production system are empowered with high-quality output, time-saving job management and automation features, and industry-leading VDP and make-ready workflows, to name just the highlights,” said Frank Mallozzi, senior vice president, worldwide marketing and sales, EFI. “The exceptional quality of the Canon imagePRESS engines are a perfect match for the Fiery, offering two solutions to meet the unique needs of different users all the way to the mission-critical production print environment.”

The powerful architecture of the imagePRESS Server J100 and imagePRESS Server J200 shortens turn-around times, so companies can improve customer satisfaction. The production features allow the servers to RIP a new file, while printing another file, increasing the printing throughput. Bottlenecks are also reduced at the RIPping stage, so output is delivered quickly to the printing device, which increases productivity and saves time. The advanced queue management capabilities eliminate bottlenecks and minimize downtime, resulting in enhanced productivity and improved profitability.

The Fiery-driven engines offer make-ready tools and features to deliver a fast job set-up, and enable less experienced operators to perform complex document functions. EFI Impose and EFI Compose are standard with the imagePRESS Server J200 and available as option packages on the imagePRESS Server J100. EFI Impose offers a visual workflow for advanced document imposition that provides fast, accurate processing of the most complex booklet, n-up, and gang-up routines. For advanced make-ready tools, the EFI Compose provides a WYSIWYG user interface for document verification, document merging, media specification, chapters and tab printing.

With the Fiery open platform and compliance with industry standards such JDF, PDF, and PPML (Optional), the new servers seamlessly integrate into Canon customers’ overall print shop operations, including offset/digital hybrid environments and third-party graphic arts workflows, including Computer-to-Plate (CTP) environments. The new servers are integral to a highly efficient end-to-end workflow, from a customer’s document submission via the web with EFI Digital StoreFront through centralized job production management with EFI Fiery Central and EFI MicroPress and optimal print shop management with EFI Print MIS solutions.

The imagePRESS Server J100 and imagePRESS Server J200 will be available in Q1 2009.
