Monday 27. October 2008 - Screen (USA) will showcase digital output devices and workflow solutions at Graph Expo 2008 designed to help production professionals and print providers maximize their business opportunities.

Product demonstrations in booth #3808 will build on the enthusiastic reception the Truepress family of digital printing systems enjoyed at Drupa in June. In addition, Graph Expo will provide the venue for the North American debut of the latest upgrade to Screen’s PDF- and JDF-based workflow management system and a new flexo/letterpress computer-to-plate (CTP) recorder.

Inkjet opening new markets
Following its commercial launch at Drupa, the Truepress Jet2500UV grand-format inkjet printer is expected to generate considerable interest in Chicago. This versatile printing system combines print resolutions up to 1,500 dpi with Screen’s unique image screening and an eight-level grayscale printhead to produce photo-quality printing with a maximum output width of 98.4 inches. The Truepress Jet2500UV satisfies a wide range of advertising and sign/display applications, thanks to its hybrid design with roll and rigid material transport systems as standard features. An optional media feeder table increases the length of media that can be used. Optional white inks enable vibrant printing on transparent and colored media.

Commercial and book printers expanding into the short-run and variable color printing markets can leverage the Truepress Jet520 in their pressrooms. The single-pass inkjet press’s blend of productivity and print quality creates tremendous added value. With its maximum speed of 420 feet per minute, the Truepress Jet520 can print on a wide range of paper types, and with a resolution up to 720 dpi x 720 dpi, the Truepress is perfect for books, catalogs, direct mail, statements and newsletters.

Printing by the book
Screen is partnering with Standard Finishing Systems to demonstrate the Truepress Jet520’s open interface to postpress systems. The Screen booth will feature the press equipped with the Standard Hunkeler UW6 unwinder and RW6 rewinder for automated inline paper handling. Additionally, in booth #2246, Standard Finishing Systems will process 180-page perfect-bound books and 8 ½ x 11-inch tri-fold mailers from paper rolls containing full-color pages printed on the Truepress Jet520 and four-color book covers printed on the Truepress 344 direct imaging press. The processing configuration will include the Standard Hunkeler Gen6 CS6-II rotary double cutter and LS6 nonstop stacker, Standard Horizon BQ-470 perfect binder and Standard Horizon HT-70 three-knife trimmer.

On-press imaging
Quick, on-demand, top-quality printing are the characteristics most sought in a direct imaging press. The Truepress 344 offers these qualities, plus low-cost operation and ease of use. The two-page, four-color press prints at a rate of 7,000 sheets per hour. It utilizes a thermal multi-array laser diode imaging system to expose processless plates. The conventional wet offset printing process, with traditional inks and paper, provides true lithographic quality with economical running costs.

Latest PDF/JDF workflow
Since its launch in 2000, Trueflow has evolved from an intelligent RIP application in a CTP environment to an essential universal workflow for businesses that maintain a hybrid offset/digital workflow. Trueflow SE Ver. 6.0 offers the latest in JDF-compliant PDF handling. Featuring the reliable Adobe PDF Print Engine, Trueflow SE Ver. 6.0 is extremely user-friendly. It offers several new functions:

OutlinePDF-Advance: Improved support for impositioned PDF output; font embedding for consistent text quality; outlining of linework; and preservation of original data compression format for more efficient processing
Digital page inspection
Versioning based on both multiple PDFs and multi-layer PDFs
Ability to directly export a JDF file into a Trueflow hot folder, eliminating the need to manually drag and drop the JDF file via the Trueflow user interface
JDF imposition template support in the Job Recorder workflow
Front and back imposition overlay viewing
Large-format flexo CTP
Also debuting at Graph Expo, the PlateRite FX1524 excels at thermal CTP imaging for flexible packaging, carton and corrugated packaging applications. It handles flexo and letterpress plates and thermal ablative film up to 42 x 60 inches. The PlateRite FX1524 has a maximum imaging speed of 4 square meters (43.05 square feet) per hour. It features a 64-channel laser imaging head and newly developed screening technology. PageFit Flexo software seamlessly integrates with third-party front-end workflows.

High-speed CTP
The PlateRite 8800ZX, Screen’s flagship eight-up CTP recorder, is well suited to companies with above-average plate demands. The PlateRite 8800ZX is capable of outputting up to 51 plates per hour. It has the flexibility to image plates as small as 12 x 14.6 inches. It also offers high-resolution, 4,000 dpi support as an option. This resolution is high enough for the printing of extremely fine images, as well as small text sizes required for bonds and other securities.

Screen (USA) will present its diverse lineup of digital output systems and workflow solutions in booth #3808 at Graph Expo, to be held October 26-29 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
