Newsprinters hosts Vision in Print Best Practice Club
Wednesday 15. October 2008 - Newsprinters, the newspaper manufacturing subsidiary of News International, announces that its Knowsley plant in Merseyside has hosted the first ever Vision in Print (ViP) Best Practice Club visit to a print operation.
The ViP Best Practice Club aims to demonstrate to printers the benefit that other organisations and industries are gaining from practising continuous improvement or lean manufacturing techniques. This is the first time a printer has been used as an example of best practice – previously, industries including car manufacturing and pharmaceuticals have been used.
Gil Reid-Robbins, managing director of ViP, says: “It was great that Newsprinters was able to be the first printer host of our Best Practice Visits. Its excellent standard of lean application is a good benchmark for all who want to set challenging standards for their own business, we hope this will be the first of many best practice visits to UK printers and packagers in the coming years. For those who cant wait that long, our conference on 4 November on How to Thrive in a Print Recession will show how other printers are benefiting from using lean techniques.”
Steve Whitehead, manufacturing manager at Newsprinters Knowsley, said: “I am delighted that the hard work and commitment from everyone on site has paid off and that the principles and benefits of lean are both recognised and indeed embedded in our day to day activities. It is important for us to maintain the momentum we have achieved so far and to be exonerated as Vision in Prints first best practice printing site in the UK is a real accolade for us.”
Brian McGee, managing director of Newsprinters, says: “We are immensely proud that Vision in Print has chosen our site in Knowsley for a visit by the Best Practice Club. Newsprinters has invested heavily in making sure that all our plants are examples of print industry best practice and were keen that this knowledge should benefit the industry as a whole.”
