Monday 13. October 2008 - In February 2008, the starting signal was given for the construction of the two manroland office buildings in Augsburg, Germany. Now, only half a year later, the structural work is already finished.

According to the old custom, the construction companies set up a topping-out tree on the crane. Afterwards, all of the companies and employees involved in the construction celebrated the work they had accomplished so far. Executive Board member Paul Steidle commented: “My colleagues in the Executive Board and I would like to thank everyone who worked on-site and off-site on the progress of this project with such commitment and motivation. I would also like to thank all employees who put up with the unavoidable inconveniences like noise and dust with such patience and understanding.”

In his speech at the topping-out ceremony, Project Manager Jürgen Heim thanked the companies and architects involved for their hard work. For manroland, this means that the interior work can now begin. Around 250 employees will move into the new office buildings starting at the beginning of 2009. “So far, the construction work is running smoothly. Planners and construction companies are working hand-in-hand and we are very pleased,” said Jügen Heim. “We even stayed within the budgeted lower double-digit millions range. Nevertheless, of course, we had to face minor price increases, like for steel.”

Energy-Saving Building Services
manroland focuses heavily on complying with the latest environmental standards. For that reason, an energy-saving cooling system in the form of a cooling ceiling as well as a ventilation system with cooled air-intake will be installed on every floor. Water pipes integrated into the ceilings provide for comfortable temperatures both during the summer and winter. The water needed for the cooling comes from the nearby brook (the Senkelbach) and will be recirculated after use. Consequently, manroland also implements state-of-the-art standards for heat insulation. The sun-screens fixed to the building frontage block the heat and solar radiation. In addition, the new buildings will receive what is known as an ‘energy pass’.
