Drent Goebel Vision press for QuadDirect

The multi-unit, all UV-press system will be installed in QuadDirect's direct mail facility in Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA.

Wednesday 10. September 2008 - The multi-unit, all UV-press system will be installed in QuadDirect's direct mail facility in Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA.

Delivery of the press is scheduled for early 2009. QuadDirect joins a growing list of premier direct mail printers who have installed the Vision variable press in North America. More than 2,000 Vision units making up nearly 250 presses have been installed worldwide since the year 2000.
QuadDirect is a subsidiary of Quad/Graphics, the largest privately held commercial printer in the Western Hemisphere today. It offers data-driven marketing solutions focused on improving data quality, sharpening targeting efforts and reducing cost per response while also growing revenue.

The new variable Vision press system allows QuadDirect to offer a multiple of variable finished formats and sizes off one press platform including specialized finishing and personalization. As Tim Sands, Quad/Graphics Vice President of Press Operations, confirms, “We were impressed with Drent Goebel’s all servo driven technology, fast make-ready and the very complete press system package.”

Drent Goebel is a Netherlands-based company with more than 150 years of combined printing press design and manufacturing experience resulting, in part, from the takeover of three other well-known variable press suppliers during the last 8 years. These include Goebel, Giebeler and RDP Marathon. This agglomeration [conglomeration? Agglomeration is more of a “jumble.”] of companies resulted in the development of the VSOP “patented variable sleeve offset” (plate and blanket sleeves) technology platform. Showcased recently at drupa 2008, more than 100 VSOP press systems – available in 20″, 33″ and 49″ web widths – have been sold worldwide to commercial printers and

packaging converters (cartons, film and label) who confirm the attractiveness of inexpensive repeat/size change with sleeve technology and the ability to print on substrates ranging from commercial paper to heavy paperboard to unsupported film materials.

The sale of the Vision has been realized by Drent Goebel’s US agent, PacSys, and was led by Mike McGuinness.
