Screen to showcase On Demand Newsprint Solution

Truepress Jet520

Monday 08. September 2008 - At IFRA EXPO 2008 (27-30th October, Amsterdam) Screen will showcase a live demonstration of remote "Digital-On-Demand" newspaper printing.

The new Screen On Demand Newsprint Solution based around the Truepress Jet520, will print ‘same day’ copies of several major titles including Daily Mail, The Guardian, Le Monde and El Pais. Each newspaper will be finished on-line to a Hunkeler newspaper system. Visitors will be able to pick up copies of the newspapers from the Screen booth daily.

As part of its On Demand Newsprint Solution, Screen will also demonstrate its dedicated newspaper workflow application NewsWorker. A plug-in to the Adobe InDesign desktop publishing application, NewsWorker is an automated newspaper production tool, preparing and optimising files from their receipt as publisher PDFs.

The Truepress Jet520 is an ideal machine for short-run newspaper production, particularly to serve international business communities and tourist markets. The Truepress Jet520 combines Screen’s renowned manufacturing and engineering skills with Epson’s latest multi-tone Piezo DOD (Drop On Demand) inkjet print heads and water-based dye inks, resulting in a high level of accuracy, quality and reliability.

Previous attempts to establish the principle of printing newspapers anywhere in the world on the day of publication have been compromised by speed, colour or quality. However, with the Truepress Jet520 publishers can produce have a complete facsimile of their newspapers with perfect colour and a quality level that is indistinguishable from litho printing, with a production speed of a thousand newspapers per hour.

Producing full colour newspapers on the day of publication at the required point of distribution, anywhere in the world, is a good example of how Screen is supporting many different sectors of the printing industry with innovative solutions that create a future in print.

When it comes to understanding colour, Screen can call on more than 50 years’ experience of screening, dot formation and colour management. In addition to the technologies, the right manufacturing skills are needed to put them into practice. Screen is well equipped to deal with the incredible level of accuracy required to build such devices.
