New Xerox Production Scanner Delivers Dependable Features and Performance for Document and Imaging Workflows

Wednesday 03. September 2008 - Enterprise document management solution increases productivity and reduces the total cost of scanning

Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and Visioneer, Inc. today announced a new production scanner for document and imaging workflows that combines reliable, high-speed hardware with a professional software bundle, making it a cost-effective choice for service bureaus, busy office environments that handle a wide variety of documents, and businesses with complex document scanning requirements.

The Xerox DocuMate 765 document scanner combines high image quality, a 10,000-page daily duty cycle, 65-pages-per-minute scanning speed, and easy operation. Powered by Visioneer OneTouch scanning technology, the DocuMate 765 scanner features industry leading software, including Kofax VirtualReScan 4.2 Professional AIPE-EBC. Taken together, the Xerox DocuMate 765 scanner and the Kofax VRS Professional bundle translate into measurable savings – fewer manual steps, reduced storage requirements and less operator intervention – and significantly improved image quality.

“The combination of high performance hardware, perfectly engineered with award-winning software and drivers, makes the DocuMate 765 scanner a superior product choice for production document and image scanning,” said John Capurso, vice president of marketing for Visioneer. “The extensibility of Visioneer OneTouch technology, which seamlessly delivers scanned documents to enterprise content management (ECM) applications, is unmatched by any other vendor in the industry.”

The DocuMate 765 scanner has the ability to scan a wide range of document sizes and supports long document scanning up to 34 inches. The scanner also has an easy-to-read LCD on the front that reminds the user of the resolution, color mode, file type, processing and final destination of the scanned document.

Perfect Scans from Imperfect Originals
Ensuring that scanned images are of the best quality possible is critical to document management workflow. The DocuMate 765 scanner includes Visioneer OneTouch with Kofax VRS technology and provides both high-quality image enhancement and increased productivity with Kofax VRS Professional for auto-everything scanning, including automatically rotating pages, detecting and skipping blank pages, and removing background colors that may interfere with optical character recognition. The DocuMate 765 scanner also incorporates ultrasonic multifeed, which uses sound waves to detect if there are two documents going through the scanner at the same time. VRS 4.2 Professional improves workflow and reduces the total time needed to scan even the largest volumes of mixed batch documents.

Powerful Scanning at the Touch of a Button
Visioneer OneTouch technology allows users to scan to the “destination” of their choice by pressing a single button, eliminating multiple steps usually required to save scanned documents in popular file formats. The scanner includes Nuance OmniPage Pro OCR for converting high volumes of paper and forms into files that can be searched and edited. The DocuMate 765 scanner has the ability to instantly scan a document into a searchable PDF file, and send it to one of the many ECM applications that Visioneer has developed links to such as Microsoft SharePoint, Kofax Ascent Collection Server, EMC Captiva QuickScan Pro, FileBound, Laserfiche, DocuWare, Xerox DocuShare and ScanFlow Store, and/or to devices such as printers and networked storage systems in just one touch.

Reduced Service Calls and Extended Scanner Life
The DocuMate 765 scanner’s design allows the hardware to be maintained directly by the user, virtually eliminating the need for maintenance service calls through a user utility to track scanner usage and status. The scanner uses a xenon lamp to illuminate the document as it passes through the scanner. The lamp is only on when documents are being scanned, substantially extending the lamp’s life and reducing required maintenance.

With easy-to-change and easy-to-clean parts, ongoing maintenance can be handled by the user. DocuMate 765 scanner roller kits last an average of 20 percent longer than many of its competitors, reducing the number of service calls required.

Pricing and Availability
The Xerox DocuMate 765 scanner is priced at $6,995 and is available immediately through retail and online channel partners and major resellers. The DocuMate 765 scanner is also a trade compliant (TAA) device.
