Monday 25. August 2008 - Duplo Corporation is showing some of the most advanced finishing solutions on the market during the Taipei International Graphic Arts Exhibition. The Duplo name is already a leading brand in Taiwan within the duplicator sector, and the company plans to build on its unique position as the only manufacturer worldwide producing equipment ranging from printing to finishing systems.

Globally, Duplo Corporation is a major innovator and supplier of finishing solutions to the graphic arts market, with customers ranging from small printshops and trade finishing houses to large traditional and digital printers and publishers. Duplo’s philosophy of developing modular, easy to operate yet highly productive finishing lines has made its equipment extremely popular. During TIGAX2008, Duplo is demonstrating three totally different finishing technologies, which it believes are ideally suited to the needs of many Taiwanese businesses. On display on Hall B is the System 5000 High Volume Bookletmaker, the DPB-500 Perfect Binder and the DC-645 Production Colour Finisher.

System-5000 High Volume Bookletmaker
The high speed System-5000 bookletmaker is unique in its ability to turn printed output into booklets and collated sets. The bookletmaker’s state-of-the-art modular construction offers complete flexibility by accepting output from both traditional offset as well as digital presses. This unique offering gives the System-5000 a competitive edge, by eliminating the need to have two separate solutions.

The Duplo System-5000 incorporates cutting edge technology with a high level of automation and functionality that is easy to operate and delivers high productivity of up to 5,000 booklets or 10,000 collated sets per hour.

The suction-fed collating towers within the System-5000 is expandable up to 60 bins and include a recently redesigned fold unit, which results in a flatter, crisper fold. This makes the booklets easier to manage when being fed into envelope inserting machines for direct mail applications.

Each collating tower is equipped to operate independently, allowing two jobs to run in two different output directions. In addition, the large 60mm capacity bins can be reloaded for continuous production, which is increased further by the automatic ejection of misfeeds.

Push button set up allows the operator to switch from a 350 x 500mm job to a CD size book without any additional parts or manual intervention, while every element of the line including stitcher heads, side guides, fold stoppers etc, will automatically readjust within seconds to suit to new job requirements.

DPB-500 Perfect Binder
The DPB-500 perfect binder has been designed for use in a huge range of environments from medium volume offset printers to digital, on-demand and government departments, as well as high volume in-house operations and finishing houses. Every element of the machine has been designed to the most advanced specifications, taking productivity, cost efficiency, safety and versatility to the highest levels.

The fast throughput speed and precision engineering of the DPB-500 makes it the most productive and cost efficient perfect binder in its class. The fully automatic single clamp design allows output of up to 525 cycles an hour, while the user-friendly touch screen control panel simplifies operation, reducing manual intervention and production downtime. The extremely short set up time makes the DPB-500 highly effective at short runs. Up to 20 different jobs can be stored in the program memory and recalling a job will automatically reset the glue and score wheels, cover guides etc ready for immediate production.

The DPB-500 can operate in two modes, either binding books of the same thickness or books of varying thickness. The sophistication of the sensors and level of automation mean that handling work of varying thickness is as easily carried out as ‘standard’ work. Other features include a large glue tank, a milling station for cut sheet and signature folded blocks, plus in-line scoring for standard, hinge and optional wing scoring. Duplo’s perfect binder can handle books from 120 x 120 mm up to 360 x 320 mm and in thickness from 1 – 51 mm (plus cover).

The DC-645 Production Colour Finisher
One of the most flexible digital finishing solutions on the market today, the Duplo DC-645 Production Colour Finisher slits, cuts and creases in one single pass, in precisely the right place around the image every time, reducing waste and ensuring high quality and optimum productivity. The compact unit has the capability to incorporate up to six slits, 15 cuts and ten creases in one pass, at a processing speed up to 26 sheets per minute. Features include a barcode reader, which automatically reads the printed images and automatically adjusts the machine guides to match the image on the paper, compensating for image shift.

The Duplo DC-645 can be used to transform printed output into a wide range of finished products, from business cards and greetings cards to invitations, brochures, book/CD covers and photographs. The system’s highly effective vacuum feed minimizes the risk of marking or misfeeds, while an additional air knife compressor blows air with each feed cycle to aid sheet separation of heavier stock.

Substrates between 110 – 350 gsm can be handled by the DC-645, in sizes from 210 x 210 mm up to 370 x 360 mm. Stock can be non-coated, coated and laminated and the input tray has a 100 mm capacity to aid productivity. Duplo also offers a variety of additional modular options with the DC-645, including a knife folding feature and rotary score module.

Akio Kaneko, Manager, International Sales Group at Duplo Corporation comments: “Duplo has been taking the industry lead in ensuring that print providers understand the significance of effective, flexible finishing within the production process and the benefits it can bring to their business. Introducing value-added finishing processes will help customers to differentiate themselves from their competitors, increase margins on individual jobs, establish profitable relationships as well as move into new areas and thus grow their overall business potential.”

“Following valuable feedback from our customers worldwide, we’ve been extremely busy developing new advanced, cost-effective finishing solutions that produce high quality, multiple applications to suit the requirements of traditional offset, digital or hybrid printing houses. We believe that the Duplo range of finishing solutions is perfectly suited to the graphic arts market in Taiwan and look forward to demonstrating some of our options during TIGAX 2008.”
