Autobond Expands Customer Base with Orders from New Countries

Thursday 21. August 2008 - Autobond has significantly expanded its client base over the summer following several orders from countries in which it has not previously had customers.

During the last six weeks, Autobond has won orders for Mini laminators from printers in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Libya. The first Autobond laminator in Switzerland – a Mini 76 THS – will arrive at the Geneva premises of sheet-fed printer SRO-Kundig in October.

“We currently send all our laminating out to the trade and this obviously has travel, time and cost implications,” says Stéphanie Vonlanthen, Director General at SRO-Kundig. “We went to drupa with a completely open mind and looked at laminators from all the major suppliers. Autobond’s laminators appear so much stronger in build than other makes and we like the Heidelberg feeder, with which we are familiar.

“We decided on the Mini 76 THS, as this format suits the B2 output from our eight-colour and five-colour Heidelberg presses. We have no in-house experience of laminating technology so are relying on Autobond to provide comprehensive on-site training for staff. With the pressroom in operation around the clock and the finishing department on a double day shift, we intend to have several employees trained to operate the new Mini 76 THS.

“In addition, the remote diagnostics facility built into each Autobond laminator is an important feature, which gives us even greater confidence in the after-sales support available should we require it.”

SRO-Kundig specializes in high-quality magazines, mainly for the Swiss jewelry market. Print run lengths are normally between 15,000 and 40,000 and all magazine covers are laminated. The family-run business, which was founded in 1832, offers comprehensive pre-press, printing and finishing services. Work produced at the Geneva site is subsequently sent around the world.
