Three nominations and at the end a victory and a commendation – that is the proud balance of ContiTech Beattie from Ashington, England at the presentation of the Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX Awards) in London. The ContiTech company won the prize for Business Development and Change Management, and there was a commendation for the People Development award. ContiTech Beattie was also nominated in the Process Innovation category.

The prize for Business Development and Change Management was won by ContiTech Beattie for the achievement by a traditional family-run company of developing into a world market leader on the areas of flexible hoses, couplings and other liquid transport systems for the oil and gas industry – thanks to visionary management and clever investments into products, processes and staff. According to the jury, a large part of the current success is due to the way the new management of the company further developed the capabilities of the employees and encouraged positive attitudes after some difficult years. ContiTech Beattie received an additional commendation for this in the People Development category. The company had already received recognition in 2007 for its efforts in the form of the British “Investor in People” plaque.

The MX Awards organized by the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the last 26 years are equivalent to a type of industrial Oscar. The contestants must convince the jury in a tough three-stage process of the performances they have delivered.

The jury member and management-consultant David Wright: “We selected the finalists in order, through them, to demonstrate that our developers and manufacturers are up amongst the best in the world in the areas of competition and innovation.”
