New Xerox Desktop Document Scanner Boosts Productivity
Friday 01. August 2008 - "Like having a personal assistant," DocuMate 162 scanner can capture, organize and repurpose paper documents for nearly any application
Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today announced a new, easy-to-use document scanner that help users be more productive by scanning, e-mailing and copying their documents at the touch of a single button.
The Xerox DocuMate 162 color document scanner scans up to 50 images per minute (ipm) in duplex mode and includes a 50-page automatic document feeder that handles everything from business cards and checks to legal size documents. And it includes Visioneer OneTouch scanning technology with advanced TWAIN and certified ISIS drivers that will enable communication with hundreds of enterprise content management (ECM) and document image management (DIM) software solutions.
“Having the DocuMate 162 scanner on your desk is like having a personal assistant,” said John Capurso, vice president of marketing for the Xerox DocuMate scanners. “Its next generation scanner technology solves real-world problems such as capturing a multi-page contract in searchable PDF so that the document can be searched by content; scanning receipts that are hardly legible; or scanning colored multi-part shipping forms that are smudged and difficult to read and then electronically filing them with transit records. The Xerox DocuMate 162 scanner combines speed and high functionality with ease of use and affordability so that the scanner adapts to the customer’s document and capture needs, not the other way around.”
More Productive
With a small footprint that fits on any desk, the scanner can quickly convert paper documents into searchable PDF files that are readily shared, organized and protected. Visioneer OneTouch with Kofax VRS technology enhances imperfect originals, straightens and automatically crops them with the touch of a button.
“Anyone who has a filing cabinet will immediately discover the benefit of making a small investment in a desktop scanner,” Capurso said. “The time saved alone in filing, searching and retrieving paper will pay back the customer investment in only a few months, making it virtually a no-risk purchase.”
Scanning at the Touch of a Button
Visioneer OneTouch technology allows users to scan to the “destination” of their choice by pressing a single button, eliminating multiple steps in sending scanned documents to predetermined applications or devices. Scanner buttons come pre-programmed to scan, e-mail or copy in searchable PDF file format, but the user can customize them to scan to print, scan to archive, scan to network, and scan to OCR. The Visioneer OneTouch driver bundled with the DocuMate 162 scanner also supports automatic delivery of scanned images to applications such as Microsoft SharePoint, Kofax Ascent Collection Server, EMC Captiva QuickScan Pro, FileBound, Laserfiche, DocuWare, Xerox DocuShare and Datacap Taskmaster.
Bundled Software
The new scanner includes bundled software worth more than $400, including Visioneer OneTouch with Kofax VRS technology, Nuance PaperPort, OmniPage Pro OCR and TWAIN, certified ISIS and WIA drivers. Nuance PaperPort is a desktop document management solution that enables users to view and assemble mixed document types into PDF files that can be managed and accessed locally or on the network. OmniPage Pro converts high volumes of paper, PDF and forms into files that can searched and edited.
Pricing and Availability
The Xerox DocuMate 162 scanner is priced at $695 and is available immediately through retail and online channel partners, major resellers and Xerox and its agents and dealers.
