Stand-alone native PDF 1.7 viewer and editor easily corrects both text and object content in multipage PDF files

Wednesday 23. July 2008 - Stand-alone native PDF 1.7 viewer and editor easily corrects both text and object content in multipage PDF files

EskoArtwork is proud to announce that EskoArtwork Neo is the recipient of a 2008 Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) InterTech Technology Award. This is the third year in a row that EskoArtwork products have been recognized: last year Esko DeskPack 3-dX received an InterTech Award, while in 2006 Esko WebCenter received a similar distinction. PIA/GATF sponsors the InterTech Technology Awards as a service to the industry in order to spotlight the wide range of technologies that contribute to the advancement of techniques and processes used in the graphic arts.
InterTech Award judges felt that this year’s entries represented some truly innovative and unique technologies that will have an impact on graphic arts and related industries. The judges appreciated the application for EskoArtwork Neo, saying “This provides an unprecedented level of stand-alone PDF editing and eliminates any downside of PDF. The ability to edit virtually anything, including fonts, without going back to the original document is outstanding.”
“We regard it an extreme honor that EskoArtwork products have received PIA/GATF InterTech Technology Awards in three successive years,” remarks Carsten Knudsen, EskoArtwork President and CEO. We are very pleased that PIA/GATF’s panel of independent judges has acknowledged the impact of an effective and easy-to-use PDF editor to the productivity of a printer’s operations. And, as a company that has renewed focus on commercial printing along with our legacy in packaging, we feel that with products such as Neo, Plate Cell Patterning and Certified PDF Technology—past Intertech Award recipients—along with Nexus, Odystar, the complete Enfocus portfolio, and other technologies, we provide effective prepress tools for commercial printing. We look forward to demonstrating all of these solutions at Graph Expo.”
EskoArtwork Neo: Efficient and productive PDF editing
EskoArtwork Neo is a stand-alone native PDF 1.7 viewer and editor that easily corrects both text and object content in multipage PDF files. It provides comprehensive prepress corrections with outstanding performance, yet has a very intuitive interface for any operator familiar with typical DTP applications.
“We started using EskoArtwork Neo to achieve our quality and costs targets. Imtech Graphics is running a fully native PDF workflow, and we needed a tool to check the production PDF files. We use Neo to check spot colors in a job, black overprints, and Total Area Coverage,” comments Mike Connelly, Director of Prepress, Imtech Graphics. “In general, we can say that the average time to QC a large complex job has been reduced by 20% when using Neo. In addition to its powerful quality assurance tools, its editing tools have greatly improved our efficiency in adjusting jobs on press. With Neo, we are able to fix, adjust and exchange tints, overprints, even images on a final PDF quickly, and be back on press with new plates in minutes.”
“Since we started working with Neo, my appreciation of the application has only grown. It is simplistic in its approach; yet more powerful than anything I’ve worked on. Neo’s speed is unparalleled and allows me to do things in seconds with one click that previously took several clicks,” explains David Krawczuk, Director of Prepress Operations, SandyAlexander. “There are few software titles that I can see an endless path in front of me, and Neo is one of them. I can’t imagine moving forward without having this advantage in my application doc.”
“With time to delivery deadlines becoming so tight, we needed a solution for late stage fix-ups that would normally require a designer to resubmit files. We use Neo to fix several common production problems that we had struggled with in the past. Missing bleeds are no longer an issue, even if a clipping path had been assigned to an object. We also easily repair conflicting page boxes within a document and can conveniently apply page box settings to an entire document. Messy traps are no longer an issue either,” describes Steve Swart, Pre-Press Manager, Snappy Print, Inc. “Neo has given us the ability to avoid down time on press by working around the need to send files back to design, whether it be in house or back to an agency. Even if we only need to fix 2 or 3 files per day, we can save hours of press scheduling and improve time to delivery to our clients, which is really the key to success.”
“The judges concur that Neo is an exceptional tool for standalone PDF editing,” comments Jan Ruysschaert, EskoArtwork Vice President Marketing & Sales Commercial Printing. “Yet, the major importance of Neo is its ability to streamline the production of PDF files. Many printers running fully native PDF workflows have found the need to check files as part of a quality control program, with an application that has the production features needed to adequately assess and edit PDF files. As noted in our application to PIA/GATF, with faster and faster deadlines, many printers have discovered very tangible production and time-saving benefits from using EskoArtwork Neo.”
