HP Indigo Technology Allows Akademi to Expand into New Markets
Tuesday 08. July 2008 - HP today announced that Akademi, based in Istanbul, has successfully expanded into the commercial printing market after installing an HP Indigo press 5000 last year.
Akademi, established in 1992, is a market leading producer of labels and packaging in the Turkish market, exporting its work to Europe and the Middle East. The company currently operates two HP Indigo presses – an HP Indigo press ws4050 for labels and packaging and the recently installed HP Indigo press 5000 for the production of commercial applications.
The company decided to expand into the commercial market after experiencing a demand from its customers for short-run, cost-efficient, personalised applications. The service has been so successful that it now accounts for 50 percent of Akademi’s business in digital printing.
“Due to how happy our customers were so with the quality of work produced on our HP Indigo press ws4050, we decided to expand our printing capacity and offer a commercial printing service,” said Fatih Kuran, chief executive officer, Akademi Group, printing division. “We looked at the alternative technologies on the market but decided to re-invest in HP’s digital printing technology. In our opinion HP Indigo technology offers the most complete package on the market. It is reliable, cost-efficient and produces high-quality work – benefits that our customers can enjoy.”
With the introduction of its commercial digital printing service the company has used its HP Indigo press 5000 to extend its product offering with a variety of commercial collateral such as leaflets, brochures, direct mailers and photobooks for its large blue-chip customer portfolio.
Reaching speeds of up to 4,000 four-colour A4 images per hour, the HP Indigo press 5000 is ideal for the production of photo-specialty applications. It uses HP liquid ink technology to match 97 percent of the PANTONE colours range and accurately replicate skin tones, textures, shadow and shading.
“Our photobook service has been very popular,” said Kuran. “When producing photobooks, print quality and speed is of the utmost importance. Our HP Indigo press 5000 allows us to produce high-quality web-to-print photobooks within the shortest possible timeframes, allowing the product to reach our customers as quickly as possible.”
Akademi is planning to further maximise its digital print capacity, using its HP Indigo presses to offer its customers short-run flexible packaging services in the near future.
