HP Announces Winners of the HP Indigo Progressive Printing Competition
Wednesday 02. July 2008 - HP today announced the winners of the first HP Indigo Progressive Printing Competition that recognises excellence and innovation in digital printing.
Prizes were presented at a gala dinner on Tuesday 3rd June in Düsseldorf, to coincide with the international trade show for the graphic arts, drupa. The awards were presented by Alon Bar-Shany, vice president and general manager, Indigo Digital Press Division, HP, at a ceremony held at The Rheinterrasse Dusseldorf.
The competition which attracted 482 entries from 31 countries, was divided into five categories: photo-specialty; direct marketing and transpromotional printing; publications, including books, user manuals and magazines; marketing collateral, and an open, “other,” category for innovative, inspirational or creative submissions.
The category winners are:
Photo-specialty: Guangdong Guangzhou Bixin, of Guangzhou, China
Direct marketing: The FSA Group, of Markham, Ontario, Canada
Publications: Cambrian Printers Ltd, of Aberwystwyth, Wales, UK
Marketing collateral: Vovremja, Moscow, Russia
Other: Beijing QL-ART Printing Co. Ltd, Beijing, China
“Our first HP Indigo Progressive Printing Competition has highlighted the innovative applications that our customers are creating and the significant part they play in driving page growth of 40 percent,” said Alon Bar-Shany, general manager, Indigo Digital Press, HP. “HP Indigo Digital technology is accelerating digital adoption and this is reflected in the diversity of entries that we have seen from our international customers. By maximising digital versatility our customers are creating tailored one to one communciations, printing rich and vibrant colours that are comparable to offset.”
Judging was by five experienced industry experts including, Andy Hatkoff, vice president, Advanced Color Technologies, Pantone, Inc.; Bill Garno, director Printing Applications Laboratory, Rochester Institute of Technology; Matt Kitcherside, general manager, Gyro London, UK; Carlos Silgado, editor-in-chief of Artes Gráficas Magazine; Chen Yan, vice president of China Academy of Printing Technology.
“The winners demonstrated an appreciation and knowledge of the capabilities of their HP Indigo presses and used the features successfully in reproducing their work which made them stand out from other submissions,” said Andy Hatkoff, vice president, Advanced Color Technologies, Pantone Inc. “The variety of categories showed that the Indigo presses could be used for everything from simple marketing collateral to sophisticated one-to-one marketing campaigns to beautifully conceived artistic pieces.
“The competition is a fantastic opportunity to show the marketplace the creative application and end uses of digital printing and is a wonderful way to showcase the features and quality of Indigo printing.”
Awards for second and third place were also presented, and all award-winning entries can be seen on the HP stand at drupa, in Hall 8a.
