Successful Showing at drupa

Press conference from ContiTech: Journalists from all over the world get the latest news about CONTI-AIR® and Xtra Blankets from Dr. Thomas Perkovic, Head of PMS Printing Blankets.

Monday 30. June 2008 - It was definitely well worth seeing, not only because of the stunning getup the hostesses at ContiTech’s joint booth had on. Appropriately enough, they were decked out in printing blankets. For the first time ContiTech was on hand at drupa with both printing blanket brands, CONTI-AIR and Xtra blankets, offering quite a bit to see that was new. The concept added up.

The world’s biggest and most important trade show for the printing and media industry proved enormously popular. All told, 1,971 exhibitors from 52 countries presented their products and services at the Düsseldorf fairgrounds from May 29 to June 11. The show attracted around 391,000 visitors from 138 countries.

The ContiTech booth also drew visitors of sundry nationalities. “drupa went extremely well for us, although we really didn’t know what to expect going into it. We were on uncharted terrain, so to speak – in two respects. First of all, both ContiTech brands were on display at the booth. And secondly, we were showing off new products, of course, above all in the heatset area,” explained Dr. Thomas Perkovic, head of the Printing Blanket segment at ContiTech Elastomer Coatings. “There was a sensational response both to our booth at the show and to our printing blankets. It was a strong endorsement for our strategy and a successful showing all across the board.”

Examples: With the CONTI-AIR NEON-TR, based on the innovative Air2 technology, ContiTech is getting more actively involved in heatset printing. And with the new CONTI-AIR ENTROPIA-TR 2, the company has launched a highly-developed printing blanket for coldset printing that is expected to open up other fields of business in this sector, too. “Our presence at drupa clearly showed that in these areas we are also at the cutting edge and are supplying quality that is up to the respected ‘Made in Germany’ claim,” says Perkovic. “ContiTech is investing not only in new developments but also in new distribution channels.” The strategy here is to achieve further growth in saturated markets like North America and Western Europe by moving into new product areas. But ContiTech also has its eyes fixed on the sector’s new growth markets in Eastern Europe and Asia. In the last few years both CONTI-AIR and Xtra Blankets were able to report two-digit growth in the Asian region, for example. As drupa demonstrates, with its two brands ContiTech Elastomer Coatings is extremely well positioned worldwide.
