2ND MEETING OF THE PRINOVIS WORKS FIRE BRIGADES
Monday 30. June 2008 - After Dresden, the locations Ahrensburg and Itzehoe were the hosts this year of the biennial meeting of Prinovis works fire brigades, from 10 to 12 April in Itzehoe and Rendsburg.
The print shop on the shores of the Stör was the meeting place for the altogether 41 fire fighters from the locations Ahrensburg, Darmstadt, Dresden, Nuremburg and Itzehoe. Thomas Gervink, Head of Personnel, welcomed them all in Itzehoe. He specifically thanked the participants on behalf of management for their great commitment to fire protection in the company: »The individual fire protection philosophies may differ at the locations, but the overarching responsibility of the Prinovis fire fighters remains: protection of the company and colleagues. And in this they are totally successful.«
After the organisers Reinhard Schur (Ahrensburg) und Jochen Schmidt (Itzehoe) introduced the programme, a tour of the printing shop and of course the inspection of the works fire brigade station followed. Late in the afternoon, they all proceeded to the Youth Fire Brigade centre in Rendsburg – the staging post for the next activities.
The next morning started with a highlight: a demonstration of the swivel-arm vehicle of the FF Rendsburg, with an operating platform extending to a height of 42 m in order to also quickly reach the high railway bridge crossing the Kiel canal in an emergency and drop off rescuers. Those who did not enjoy the view from a dizzy height made use of the opportunity to take the transporter bridge across the canal. This construction, dating back to 1913, is doing its daily duty as a technical monument to this day.
Next stop, the Ziegler company – specialist for equipping fire engines. The fire comrades were here afforded an insight into the technical standard in vehicle and equipment construction and how special customer requirements are realised.
Next item on the programme: North Sea spa Büsum and specifically the exhibition »Büsum storm tide world Blanker Hans«. In sailors parlance, Blanker Hans refers to the threatening North Sea when storm tides threaten the dykes and life behind the dykes and at sea. Inside a rescue pod, you could drift through a virtual storm tide world and gain an impression of what it means to be at the mercy of natures forces.
Despite this wide-ranging and tightly scheduled programme, there was enough time for intensive exchange of experiences and personal discussions between colleagues. Generally agreed conclusion after the final discussions: a successful event! That feeling of togetherness reinforced, existing friendships refreshed, technical knowledge broadened!
