Chudovo Mill celebrates its first million cubic metres
Tuesday 17. June 2008 - By the end of May, one million cubic metres of plywood were manufactured at UPM's Chudovo Plywood Mill. UPM celebrates today this significant milestone in its production by donating the jubilee ballet of WISA-Form Birch to its long-standing customer Promstroikontrakt.
“Chudovo Plywood Mill has long traditions and a creditable result history as evidence of continuous, good work and purposeful development of manufacturing. The long-standing cooperation with Promstroikontrakt that goes back more than ten years has created favourable preconditions and motivation to develop production further to meet the customers’ needs,” states Arto Juvonen, Senior Vice President, UPM Plywood.
Mr Vadim Dykman, Director, Finance, from Promstroikontrakt rates highly the liability and stability of its partner. “The success of our cooperation is based on the way how UPM is dealing with its customers; the challenges and needs of customers are being well examined and the customers are not left alone with their problems. Ten years ago, film-faced plywood was not yet a very common material for formwork. We became convinced of WISA plywoods being high-quality and efficient products with a high re-use indicator and accurate dimensional tolerances.”
The Chudovo Plywood Mill began functioning in 1990 and production has steadily increased ever since. Today the annual production capacity of the three production lines is 100,000 cubic metres of birch plywood. Most of the production is sold via UPM’s sales channels to Central Europe. About one third of Chudovo’s production stays in Russia to be sold by local retailers. WISA plywoods manufactured in Chudovo are mainly used for building and construction.
The Chudovo Plywood Mill employs about 590 people. In addition to plywood mill, the Chudovo mill site also encompasses a veneer mill with about 70 employees.
The Chudovo Mills have constantly improved their operations. For this systematic development work, Chudovo Mills have been granted both international ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certificates for quality and environment and VTT and DIN Otto Graf certificates. The rating agency Expert RA has granted Chudovo mills the environmental rating Eco A.
