Wednesday 11. June 2008 - MPG Impressions (MPGi) in Chessington is adding a Speedmaster SM 102-10-P this autumn. Mark Croucher, managing director of the Chessington plant, and group chief executive Mike Milton were at Drupa to sign the order.

The company already has four Speedmasters, two CD 102-6+LX presses and eight- and ten-colour SM 102 long perfectors.
“The long perfectors are great workhorses and since the consolidation of Lasting Impressions and Unwins to form MPGi it has become clear we needed another long perfector,” says Mr Croucher. “We have seen the potential of the XL 105 and Inpress Control which is our next planned investment for 2009, but we need a press now so the latest generation SM 102 with its Preset Plus feeder and delivery, improved jackets and Prinect Press Center with Intellistart will give us a 10-15% productivity boost over our five and six year old models.”
The company believes the new large wallscreen on the Prinect Press Centre will make the press even more efficient through visual interaction for press settings.
The company is an existing Data Control/Pressroom Manager user (with links to latest Optimus MIS software) and its Image Control works across the pressroom. These workflow tools are seen as key to efficiency and ensuring top quality consistency. The company has ISO 12647 colour control accreditation and full ISO14001, FSC, and PEFC qualifications.
It is these credentials that bring a loyal customer base, including top names like Rolls Royce, Aston Martin and FTSE 100 Report and Account plc clients. The company works with corporate and commercial design agencies and publishers of directories, fine art, catalogues, magazines, and journals. Sales are currently £13.3m a year but there are plans to increase this to £17-18m over the next three years.
From its 52,500 sq ft factory just 30 minutes outside central London it offers a database typesetting to mailing “one-stop-shop” which includes both colour and mono digital services via an HP Indigo 5000 and Xerox 495. The flexibility of the devices means that ultra lightweight mono down to 45gsm on the Xerox, and superb colour reproduction via the Indigo can be offered. Both of which complement the extensive litho firepower and full in house binding facilities.
“Investment in the latest technology is the only way forward, maximising every area to reduce operating costs, either by faster, more efficient equipment or automation. Either way this is the future of print so we have to embrace and adapt accordingly,” says Mr Croucher.
The business is growing month-on-month and is especially proud that a significant proportion of sales are resulting from recommendations.
“This latest generation press with Intellistart gives operators the tools to maximise production output but more importantly to improve consistency and repeatability and so enhance the quality reputation we already enjoy,” he says
The new press will be delivered in October, replacing one of the CD 102-6+LX machines.
