Océ Extends Workflow Automation Leadership to Graphic Arts Market

Sunday 08. June 2008 - Océ PRISMA software ideal for hybrid digital and offset production processes

Océ announces Océ PRISMA software suite is being targeted to the demands of emerging hybrid digital and offset production workflows at drupa. As offset and digital printing converge in commercial print operations, Océ PRISMA software can support both printing methods and benefit graphic arts customers who are building a digital print operation to complement their classic offset business.

In Stand A44, Hall 6 at drupa, Océ showcases the versatility of Océ PRISMA software for the graphics arts market. From a “software island” of 12 workstations, Océ is demonstrating every process step in modern print production workflow: document creation, scan and make-ready using Océ Document Designer and Océ DocSetter software; and web-to-print and soft-proofing solutions using Océ PRISMAweb and Océ TrueProof. Central output management solutions can be customized to fit the challenges of any environment. Midsize print shops can be powered by Océ PRISMAaccess and PRISMAprepare software, while medium- and high-volume production printing is aided by Océ PRISMAspool and Océ PRISMAproduction software. With all of the workstations networked, visitors can observe the entire workflow from the point the order is submitted through to production.

“With 30 years of experience and nearly 4,000 installed systems, Océ is one of the top global providers of software solutions for efficient, fully automated workflows. Now at drupa, we put our extensive expertise at the service of commercial printers who are poised to deploy offset and digital printing as complementary tools. As a result, they can productively and profitably grow their business in more directions,” said Peter Wolff, Océ Vice President, Graphic Arts.

Greater Operational Efficiency and Flexiblity
Maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs require that a traditional offset-print operation running concurrently with digital print infrastructure be managed by one efficient, comprehensive workflow. Océ PRISMA software helps graphic arts customers use all their printing devices with maximum efficiency.

Océ PRISMA software configures hybrid workflows to drive different printing systems via a common platform and process, even across multiple sites. Workflows can be directed from a single workstation via an intuitive GUI for a flatter learning curve and substantially less training. Operators don’t have to switch constantly between different platforms and working methods, resulting in greater efficiency and productivity. With Océ PRISMA output management, choice of printing method does not have to be made until the end of the process chain, instead of at the beginning. Users gain flexibility for scheduling, resource utilization and load balancing.

Designed for Smooth Integration
The various Océ PRISMA modules can be integrated into existing graphic arts workflows with minimal extra effort, regardless of the digital print environment or offset workflow. Users retain control over their fully automated workflows – from easy creation of variable documents to distribution of jobs between printing systems right through to digital archiving.

“We partner with numerous software manufacturers to smoothly integrate with existing systems,” said Peter Wolff. “Customers gain all the benefits of a hybrid workflow without having to make fundamental changes. They can immediately begin to reap the benefits of total process flexibility.”

Among the key partners of the Océ software portfolio are Adobe Systems Incorporated for advanced RIP technology, Eastman Kodak Company and its Creo system for digital front end systems in the Graphic Arts market, Pantone, Inc. for high quality color printing, GMC Software AGfor flexible, comprehensive document creation, and Press-Sense Ltd for e-business solutions.
