Tetra Pak invests Euro 26 million in Italian packaging material plant
Saturday 07. June 2008 - Tetra Pak today announced it will invest Euro 26 million in new printing and laminating technologies at its packaging materials plant in Rubiera, Italy. The new technologies will increase printing and lamination capacity by 25% and 30% respectively - ultimately delivering higher quality, faster service and greater flexibility to customers in the region.
“An investment of this size demonstrates our continued commitment to helping customers grow their businesses using our state-of-the-art packaging and processing systems,” said Jorge Montero, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Italy. “It also marks an important milestone in our global focus on operational performance.”
The technology upgrade at Tetra Pak’s Rubiera plant includes two key elements: a state-of-the-art laminator, (VT Lam 650/6 WRM) – the first of its kind in Europe; and a new Flexopress printing line, which will offer higher quality and more flexible production choices for customers.
The new laminator, which will begin production in March 2009, will boost production capacity from 3 billion packs today to approximately 4 billion in 2009, while delivering higher product quality and faster turnaround times for customers. It will also be capable of laminating all types and sizes of Tetra Pak packages, including Tetra Prisma Aseptic and Tetra Gemina Aseptic.
The Flexopress printing line, which will begin production in November 2008, will incorporate the latest flexoprocess printing technology. Capable of printing on a wide variety of packaging materials, this new technology will offer increased choice for customers, while boosting printing capacity and turnaround times.
Both technologies will use less energy and release less CO2 than previous technologies, which will help Tetra Pak minimise its impact on the environment. This is a key priority for the company as it remains on target to reduce overall CO2 emissions by 10% in absolute terms by 2010.
