Thursday 05. June 2008 - Announcement reflects confidence in Goss International support and innovative Sunday press format World's first 96-page Sunday 5000 systems will feature 2.8 meter web widths.

With the world’s first 96-page commercial web press scheduled for installation in early 2009, Mazzucchelli signed a letter of intent today at the drupa tradeshow to add a second identical Goss press at its facility in Seriate, Italy. Pierluigi Guerini, director at Mazzucchelli, made the announcement at the Goss International booth, along with Francesco Rapisardi of Macchingraf, the representative for Goss commercial presses in Italy.

“Our announcement today confirms our full confidence in the Goss International team and in the new 96-page Sunday press platform,” Guerini said. “This press breaks the rules and will give us clear competitive advantages in satisfying existing customers, attracting new customers and delivering a new level of value.”

Guerini noted that Mazzucchelli has had excellent results with 48- and 64-page Goss Sunday presses with pinless folders. He said the wider 96-page format represents the next breakthrough, combining added high-pagination productivity with short-run efficiency.

Goss International first announced that it would develop the Sunday 5000 press in October of 2007. A 2860-millimeter (112-inch) web width will allow printing of 96 full A4 magazine pages per cylinder revolution at up to 40,000 impressions per hour. Gapless blanket technology is an integral component, reducing vibration to enable high speed and high print quality with the wider 12×4 long-grain cylinder configuration.

“Our gapless blanket Sunday press technology is a differentiating advantage that we continue to leverage to create new opportunities for our customers and for web offset printing,” Goss International CEO Bob Brown explained. “We are grateful for the opportunity to pursue this groundbreaking new project with Mazzucchelli, a true innovator and pioneer in high-pagination web printing.”

The four-unit Sunday 5000 presses at Mazzucchelli will be equipped with Goss Contiweb FD pasters, Ecocool dryers with integrated chill rolls and the Goss Autoplate fully automatic plate changing system.
