McGowans Print Ltd Installs Ireland’s First HP Indigo Press 5500

Monday 26. May 2008 - HP today announced that McGowans Print Ltd has invested in Ireland’s first HP Indigo press 5500 to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

McGowan’s digital print service produces business cards, greetings cards, stationery, flyers, booklets, leaflets and brochures for its customers and has been an HP customer for ten years. McGowan’s has installed its new press alongside its HP Indigo press 3050 and an HP Indigo press 3500. McGowans also uses an HP Scitex TJ 8300 for the production of large format print including billboards, posters and building wraps.

The company’s HP Indigo press 5500 has been running at capacity, since its installation in March. The HP Indigo press 5500 comes with features for intuitive operation, designed to maximise uptime, including on-the-fly ink replacement for CMYK, special and spot colours and adjustment-free, minimum-touch paper handling. McGowan’s new press has been fitted with four additional stackers to enable continuous printing, maximising productivity and increasing efficiency.

“We have been delighted with the new press,” said Tony Roe, managing director, McGowans Print Ltd. “The additional paper stackers and on-press ink replacement system have dramatically increased uptime and maximised our productivity. We are able to spend more time working on profitable jobs, rather than loading supplies into the press.”

McGowan’s recently used its new press to produce 10,000 A4 betting sheets for the Grand National on behalf of Paddy Power, Ireland’s leading bookmaker. Each sheet was printed using spot colours. The press’s ability to increase productivity and print at speeds up to 4,000 four-colour 8.5″ x 11″ images per hour ensured that the job was fulfilled within just four hours.

In order to capitalise upon the investment in the new press, representatives from the company attended an advanced HP Indigo press operator course in Barcelona, as well as the HP’s marketing courses – Maximising the Digital Opportunity and Digital Selling Skills – launched under the Capture business success programme.

“As an existing customer we really value the support and expertise that HP provides and have attended the operator course and the marketing courses,” said Roe. “When the time came to invest in a new digital press we thoroughly researched the market and did not hesitate to buy another HP Indigo press. HP’s commitment to it customers success, the quality of print and the reliability of HP Indigo technology convinced us that HP Indigo press 5500 was the best in its class.”
