Cocamar Cooperativa Agroindustrial Wins 2008 Citrix Innovation Award

Thursday 22. May 2008 - Citrix Application Delivery Infrastructure Provides Foundation for Logistics Optimization and Supports Local and International Growth

Today at Citrix Synergy, the event where virtualization, networking and application delivery meet, Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS) announced the 2008 winner of the annual Citrix Innovation Award: Cocamar Cooperativa Agroindustrial, a leading agricultural cooperative in Brazil. The Citrix Innovation Award recognizes companies that are trendsetters in their industries, using Citrix application delivery and virtualization solutions to gain a competitive advantage and advance their businesses. Cocamar has set itself far apart from competing agricultural cooperatives and positioned itself for growth and increased investment in the global marketplace by implementing a networked Citrix application delivery infrastructure for more efficient supply chain and centralized data management.

Cocamar was one of three finalists selected by a prestigious panel of judges, which included the 2007 Innovation Award winner, an industry analyst and several industry visionaries. The other innovation finalists were Bechtel Corporation, a top U.S. construction contractor that provides engineering, construction and project management services worldwide; and Mutual of Omaha, a leading U.S. insurance and financial services company. The final decision was made by popular vote from thousands of IT professionals who attended Citrix Synergy or voted online for their favorite nominee.

Cocamar was established in 1963 by a group of Brazilian coffee growers and has since greatly expanded its offerings beyond coffee. Today, Cocamar’s more than 6,700 agricultural associates deliver agricultural products such as soy, corn, wheat, coffee and oranges to the cooperative for commercialization. Before implementing Citrix, Cocamar previously ran its business across 40 individual IT environments with extremely limited networking capabilities, and with no unified network to run its supply chain management software. Recognizing the great opportunities for its producers in the global market, Cocamar sought to gain a competitive advantage over other agricultural cooperatives by moving from its antiquated IT infrastructure to a modern infrastructure that would support an end-to-end application delivery system.

Since adopting Citrix XenApp Platinum Edition and Wyse thin client appliances, Cocamar has been able to manage 100 percent of its supply chain through its ERP system and now connects 40 rural sites through MPLS. Using Citrix Access Gateway provides Cocamar unprecedented remote application access with enhanced security for its global distributors. Cocamar has set itself apart from the competition in the global market by adopting a strategic application delivery infrastructure that provides a strong foundation for future growth and expansion. With Citrix’s support to make Cocamar’s operations more dynamic and flexible, the cooperative is as a result more attractive to its associates and well-positioned for international business success.

“Citrix solutions enabled us to reach a new level of productivity and communication, providing a foundation for our business that has made us a formidable competitor in the global agriculture landscape,” said Alair Aparecido Zago, chief information officer, Cocamar Cooperativa Agroindustrial. “To be recognized for our implementation of application delivery not only by the panel of industry-expert judges but by the many peers who voted for us is a significant achievement. We’re excited to continue to innovate with Citrix to propel our business forward.”
