The New York Times Company Announces Promotions of Financial Executives

Friday 25. April 2008 - The New York Times Company announced today that R. Anthony Benten, vice president and corporate controller, has been promoted to senior vice president, finance and corporate controller, and Vincenzo DiMaggio, vice president, corporate accounting and reporting, has been promoted to vice president and assistant controller. The appointments are effective today.

In making the announcement, James M. Follo, senior vice president and chief financial officer, said, “These appointments reflect the depth of experience and numerous contributions these two outstanding managers have made. Tony has done an excellent job as corporate controller and his appointment will enable us to continue to strengthen our financial operations. Vince’s superb skills and extensive experience will help us further improve our financial reporting.”
In his new role, Mr. Benten will add the treasury function to his current areas of responsibility, which include the accounting department and credit and collection areas. He became vice president and corporate controller in 2007. He was named vice president in 2003 and treasurer in 2001, after having served as assistant treasurer since 1997. He has served in various positions in the treasury department and the Forest Products Group. Before joining the Company in 1989 as a financial analyst, Mr. Benten was an accountant at Deloitte & Touche LLP from 1987 to 1989. He is a certified public accountant.
Mr. Benten was named one of the “Forty under Forty” finance executives in the November 2002 edition of Treasury Risk & Management magazine. He was also featured in the March/April 2004 edition of the Association of Financial Professionals’ publication, AFP Exchange. He serves on the Board of the Worldwide Orphans Foundation.
Mr. Benten graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in finance from Louisiana State University in 1985 and earned an M.B.A. degree in accounting and finance from Rice University in 1987.
Mr. DiMaggio was named vice president, corporate accounting and reporting, in 2006. He has held the positions of executive director, director, manager and supervisor in the corporate controller’s department. Before joining the Company in 1999, Mr. DiMaggio was a senior accountant with the audit firm BDO Seidman, LLP from 1996 to 1999. He received a B.S. degree in accounting from St. John’s University in 1996, where he graduated cum laude. He is a certified public accountant.
