Friday 25. April 2008 - Japanese printing company, Hino Offset Print Co., Ltd., has ordered two 90,000-copies-per-hour Goss Newsliner presses to enhance its existing printing capability. The company is the contract printer for national daily newspapers Asahi Shimbun and Nikkan Sport and is located 40km west of Metropolitan Tokyo.

Mr. Tooru Ueno, president of Hino Offset Print Co., Ltd., commented, “One of our corporate principles as a pioneer in four color offset printing is to deliver the highest quality daily newspapers. We investigated new high-speed offset presses using three standards – ‘Q’ high quality, ‘C’ cost effectiveness and ‘D’ delivery on time. As well as the highest quality printing, we were also looking for ease of use and safety for our operators.”

Hino Offset visited a number of state-of-the-art newspaper printing plants to evaluate several press models, including Asahi Shimbun’s Zama and Hanshin Plants, where Goss Newsliner 90 presses have been in operation for a few years. “After comparing our options and reviewing other key factors such as running cost, performance efficiency and initial investment costs, we decided to choose the Goss Newsliner 90 press,” confirmed Ueno.

Each of the two new presses will be configured as two four-high and three two-high towers with one folder and five reelstands. The Goss Newsliner 90 press will be able to print up to 40 pages including 16 in full-color at 90,000cph. The award winning Goss DigiRail digital inking technology will be installed on all towers except spot color unit, and the configuration will enable the customer to increase color capacity by the addition of further towers if required in the future. Installation will take place from the end of 2008 and is scheduled to be in production early in 2009.

Mr. Eiji Niwa, production director of Hino Offset, explained, “Among the many advanced features on the new press, the Goss DigiRail digital inking system with auto-preset function is excellent in responsiveness and high quality color reproduction. Being an operator-friendly press with minimum maintenance requirements is also a major advantage and the 24/7 service support we will receive from Goss Japan is essential to keep our newspaper facility up and running at all times.”

“This is the first Goss branded press for Hino Offset,” concluded Seiji Kato, president of Goss Japan. “Approximately 3,300 Newsliner couples are currently running worldwide and I am confident that this new Goss Newsliner 90 press will fully satisfy the customers’ requirements with its high-speed stable operation and superior print quality.”

Hino Offset was established in January 1968 as a joint-venture offset printer between Asahi Shimbun and Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., and celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.
