First Data, Greece: successful full-colour transactional printing with Xeikon

Thursday 21. February 2008 - In 2007, First Data installed two Xeikon 6000 presses in its print center in Greece. It was one of the major digital printing deals concluded in 2007 in the Southeast Mediterranean region and indicated a ‘shift to high-quality digital colour’ from the leader in the international variable data processing market.

After an operating period of six months First Data announces that the two machines are already reaching full capacity utilization. The migration to colour is clearly paying off and will further develop in 2008 and beyond.

At the forefront of full-colour transactional printing, First Data is a leading provider of electronic commerce and payment solutions for financial institutions and merchants around the world. First Data, in Greece, offers a full range of electronic transaction services, fraud protection and risk management solutions, as well as contact centre services, card personalization services and document printing and enveloping services. First Data in Greece serves clients in Greece, Cyprus, the Balkans and the Middle East.

The company uses Xeikon equipment for the creation of full-colour billing statements and magazine subscription renewals for its customers. “The Xeikon 6000 allows us to print volumes in full-colour, making it a highly cost-effective solution. By following the trend for more variable colour in transactional applications we enable our customers to develop unique and highly personalized direct mail campaigns”, explains Leonidas Patrikios, Document Production Services Director of First Data in Greece, “Evidently ensuring data integrity is critical in our business, that’s the reason why the single-pass duplex printing capability of this press and the X-800 IPDS digital front-end are crucial to us. The technology has been developed to ensure high productivity.”

“We are pleased to see that the Xeikon 6000 is a success with First Data. This proves that transactional printing too, requires high image quality,” states Siegfried Trinker, Chief Sales Officer, Punch Graphix International.

In combination with the X-800 IPDS digital front-end, the Xeikon 6000 exceeds its competitors in terms of print quality, speed and cost. The solution offers state-of-the-art productivity thanks to unmatched printing speeds in its class of 160 pages per minute and a monthly capacity of 5 million pages per unit. The reel fed device prints duplex in one pass, what makes the model an ideal partner for today’s typical mailing/transactional finishing workflows as it guarantees front-to-back data integrity. The Xeikon 6000 system also enables 2-up printing, in-line density and register control. Besides dealing with typical mailing and transactional content the X-800 IPDS digital front-end is able to handle all traditional graphical input data. The integrated IPDS controller rips the input IPDS stream directly without any conversions in between and always at rated engine speed.

The set-up is completed by an in-line Document Converter, which greatly increases the flexibility of this transactional printing press. It can slit and merge simple, job-separated document stacks in a variety of formats (A3, A4, etc.) in-line and it also allows for dynamic perforations in two directions, for the production of tear-off strips (reply cards, bank order payments, checks, etc.) on mailings and statements, making it an ideal solution for First Data.
