New Symbio preflighting & auto-correction module reduces prepress & speeds up job delivery to press
Tuesday 12. February 2008 - Objective Advantage integrates Enfocus Pitstop Server into Symbio
Specialist software developer, Objective Advantage (OA) has added a preflighting and auto-correction module to its Symbio offering with the integration of Enfocus Pitstop Server. Symbio is an automated solution that seamlessly connects order intake, production and shipping, eliminating opportunities for error and ensuring greater production efficiencies and profitability.
Symbios new preflighting and auto-correction module allows job files, which are submitted in more traditional ways such as over the counter, FTP sites and email, to be automatically tested, corrected and preflighted. This reduces the need for manual intervention and prepress labor, and speeds up the delivery of jobs to the press.
PitStop Server is the indispensable preflighting and auto-correction tool for high-volume PDF workflows. Using Enfocus PDF Profiles and Action Lists, PitStop Server instantly analyzes, corrects, reports on and routes files based on the most stringent of requirements, including the PDF/X-1a, PDF/X-3, and Ghent PDF Workgroup industry standards.
OA has integrated PitStop Server as an add-on module to its core Symbio offering in response to customer demand. Commented Gareth OBrien, CEO of Objective Advantage, “Print jobs received via web-to-print systems typically dont require any preflighting or correction, as this function is performed when the web-to-print template is created. Many printers, however, still receive jobs via more traditional methods, where the quality of the PDF is less certain, which results in the need for manual prepress activity. These printers were looking for a solution that would expand their automated workflow to include automatic preflighting and correction and by integrating PitStop Server into our core Symbio solution, we have been able to automate their prepress function, resulting in a reduction of costs and an increase in production output.”
How it works:
The customer service representative (CSR) initiates a job using the Symbio Intranet Site, a web portal that is available only within the print shop. The job is processed by the preflighting and auto-correction module based on a previously configured PDF Profile and Action List. If the file is clean, it automatically continues through to production. Otherwise, the system will attempt to autocorrect. If auto-correction fails, the job is stopped and the CSR is provided with a failure report detailing the problems with the file.
