EFI Sells 300th Award Winning VUTEk QS Series Printer to Belgium-based Print-Provider Stand-By

Thursday 17. January 2008 - EFI Achieves Milestone with its Latest Sale of the Industry Leading VUTEK QS3200 UV Curing Printer

EFI (Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that worldwide sales of its VUTEk QS Series UV printers have passed the 300 mark, since their introduction in 2H06. The 300th unit was a QS3200 superwide UV printer purchased by Belgian printing and sign company, Stand-By. Eager to grow the sign and digital printing side of its business, Stand-By has acquired the QS3200 to take advantage of its outstanding combination of quality and speed. The hybrid concept of the high-quality, high-speed UV printer enables printing on rigid and flexible substrates, producing images up to 3.2 metres (10.5 feet) wide at 1,080 dpi with High Definition Print (HDP) technology, at the rate of up to 83 square metres per hour.

Founded in 1987 as an exhibition and publicity company, Stand-By added printing to its customer offering in 1995, printing vehicle wraps and large format banners and signs for exhibitions and events. Having taken the strategic decision to sell off the exhibition arm of the company and to focus instead on developing its printing division, Paul Landeloos, owner and managing director of Stand-By, decided that the VUTEk QS3200, installed at Stand-By’s premises in Heverlee, would be the ideal machine to deliver the high quality results and efficiency to take the business to its next level of growth.

“We’d been keen to expand the sign and digital print side of the business for some time, specifically with a view to targeting the retail outlet sector, so we started to evaluate the hybrid, superwide format machines available”, comments Landeloos. “During the last five to six years, we’ve closely followed VUTEk’s progress and have consistently rated their machines at the top of the superwide format market, due to the wide-ranging benefits that the VUTEk QS Series provides. We wanted the best we could get, so we bought a QS3200. As well as the speed of the machine, the key influences on our decision to purchase the QS3200 were the superior print quality the machine delivers, thanks to its 1080 dpi resolution; its white-ink capability, which opens up a raft of new applications to us; and, of course, the hybrid nature of the printer, which affords us the flexibility to print on a variety of rigid and flexible substrates.”

Reaching this significant milestone further cements EFI’s leadership position as a technology innovator in the wide format arena. Chuck Dourlet, vice president of marketing, EFI VUTEk comments: “The sale of the 300th VUTEk QS Series printer is a landmark for EFI and is in itself a great testimonial to the quality and capabilities of the Vutek QS Series printers. We are delighted with this achievement and extremely proud of our team for the dedication and commitment that they’ve shown in developing innovative superwide products that effectively meet ever-changing market demands, enabling customers, such as Paul Landeloos, to develop their own unique applications, better service their customers and stay ahead of their competitors.”
