Renowned Syrian cartoonist Ali Farzat, whose satirical drawings targeting corruption and lampooning dictators have been published worldwide, has been awarded the 2012 Gebran Tueni Award, the annual prize of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) that honours an outstanding individual from the news media in the Arab region.
This was the message received by the more than fifty participants attending the third annual WAN-IFRA Women in News Summit in Lusaka, Zambia, this week, which brought together women from the media industry in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia for a three-day event.

The McClatchy Company (NYSE: MNI) today announced that it has priced its offering of $910 million aggregate principal amount of its 9.00% Senior Secured Notes due 2022 to qualified institutional buyers pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the “Securities Act”), and outside the United States to non-U.S. persons pursuant to Regulation S under the Securities Act. The aggregate principal amount of notes to be issued has been increased from the originally announced $750 million to $910 million. The offering is expected to close on December 18, 2012, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
