The New York Times Announces Four Appointments In Advertising

Wednesday 18. December 2013 - Michael Zimbalist Named SVP, Advertising Products; Promotions of Andy Wright, Lou Fabrizo to Senior Vice President, Jean-Christophe Demarta to Vice President

The New York Times (NYTimes.com) today announced several key appointments in its advertising department.
In making the announcements, Meredith Kopit Levien, executive vice president of advertising, The New York Times, said, “Strong leadership is imperative for our advertising business as we continue to make significant progress. The experience and dedication of these four seasoned Times executives, combined with the expertise of some of our recent new hires, establishes a solid management team that will help guide us toward success as we enter 2014.”
Michael Zimbalist will join the advertising team as senior vice president, ad products and research and development. Mr. Zimbalist will continue to oversee the company’s larger R&D efforts, which he has done since joining The Times in 2006. In his new role, he will work closely with partners in technology and consumer products to provide strategic leadership across ad operations including ad products, systems, operations and programmatic and agency relations.
Andy Wright has been named senior vice president, advertising, where he will lead the technology, finance, real estate and automotive category teams, as well as The Times’s national sales offices in San Francisco, Boston, Chicago and Detroit and the Sunday Magazine. Mr. Wright will also oversee the video and conference platforms of the business. Entering his 17th year at The Times, he was most recently group vice president.
Lou Fabrizio has also been named senior vice president and will continue to lead the culture, entertainment, beauty and department and specialty store teams. He will continue to oversee the Los Angeles sales office and will be responsible for the newspaper platform. Mr. Fabrizio, who was most recently vice president, has held numerous sales positions since joining The Times in 1979. He has also served as publisher of OUT magazine and SVP of Planet Out Partners.
On the heels of the rebrand of the International Herald Tribune (IHT) to the International New York Times, Jean-Christophe “JC” DeMarta is named vice president, global advertising, where he will manage ad operations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Mr. DeMarta, who joined the IHT in 1999, will also serve as platform lead for the International New York Times.
These announcements come after a series of senior advertising hires and promotions at The Times. In October, Brendan Monaghan, formerly of Condé Nast, joined as publisher of T Magazine and VP of Luxury; Sebastian Tomich, formerly of Forbes, was named vice president of advertising, overseeing corporate, education, advocacy, travel, healthcare, liquor and CPG; and Steve Shalit was promoted to vice president, overseeing technology and telecom.
