Green Banbury Litho chooses grey press to boost output

Wednesday 16. October 2013 - Sustainability-minded Banbury Litho will take delivery of a Speedmaster XL 75-5+L this November, believing it will minimise its start-up waste and increase the volume of sellable sheets that are produced. As an ISO 14001 certified company this is an important improvement alongside higher productivity and quality.

Better still the company has been able to carbon neutralise its Speedmaster, balancing out the carbon used in its manufacture with investment in various global sustainability projects. The calculation and administration of this scheme is handled by Heidelberg and Banbury Litho will be given certification to show it has been environmentally responsible.
“This press replaces an older CD 74 and it will increase our capacity by up to 30% with no additional hours and be a great complement to our Speedmaster SM 74-10-P. Five-colour (four-colour and a special) is fairly standard these days and the coater means we can work and turn without delay,” says managing director Matthew Wise.
“It’s a press that will increase scheduling flexibility and productivity with fully closed loop colour management using existing Heidelberg Prinect workflows, we can run to the very high quality that our customers require, even on heavier boards up to 0.8mil.”
Specified with Inpress Control, the company’s first automated spectral measurement device, printable colour will be reached very fast and the standard will be retained throughout the run. Operators at Banbury Litho welcome this new, highly automated tool.
Those who will run the press across two eight hour shifts a day will receive offsite training at the Heidelberg National Showroom in Brentford and on site at the installation stage.
Banbury Litho has been trading for 35 years and has replaced its presses regularly, normally every five to seven years. With the company running flat out it made sense to reinvest now.
“We like buying from Heidelberg. You know you will get a great product and proven technology, good customer service and peace of mind. You know you’re not taking a gamble,” says Mr Wise.
The company runs with reduced alcohol, about 3%, a level which allows them to be responsible but also to handle quality products with ease. It uses vegetable inks but is especially proud that it can offer Carbon Balanced products by using papers supplied by Howard Smith with certification from the Carbon Trust. Carbon neutralising its new press married up with its approach to sustainable strategies.
The company is working on the implementation of Web2Print technology for business to business applications and it plans to upgrade from Prinance to Heidelberg’s latest MIS system Business Manager, in the next few months.
