Gemini twins with Heidelberg for ISO 12647-2 certification

Tuesday 09. July 2013 - The Gemini Group has attained Heidelberg's ISO 12647-2 colour certification less than a year after investing £2.2m in two Speedmaster XL presses, a B1 and a B2 five-colour.

“There is a real advantage in undertaking this certification process with the press supplier. We have benefitted from sound, practical advice,” says Steve Cropper, managing director.
“The colour management programme and testing took about three days and we did have to lose about eight hours a day in production on each day. However, we regard that as an investment because we will reap the benefits in reduced waste and even better colour quality and consistency moving forward.
“The ISO 12647-2 certification is a sales tool but also enhances production disciplines. With Inpress Control spectral measurement sheets are automatically checked and inking altered, eliminating the need for operator intervention and ensuring consistent and provable results.”
Last year former Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year John Boyle increased his 25 year stake in the company to 100% ownership and he encouraged new investment in litho, digital and finishing production. Gemini Group – which comprises Gemini Press, Gemini Brighton, Gemini Digital and Gemini West (Bristol) – continues to be very busy and to be enjoying continued growth.
Any company who attains Heidelberg’s ISO 12647-2 certification becomes a member of the Colour Club and is listed on the Heidelberg UK web site so that print buyers can check the authenticity of their colour credentials.
