125 Years of Coca-Cola Bottled in a Book

Wednesday 01. June 2011 - Coca-Cola Partners with Assouline to Release Coca-Cola - A Book and iPad App Featuring Iconic Images from the World's Most Iconic Beverage Brand

Whether it’s the image of people standing on a hilltop teaching the world to sing, Andy Warhol’s iconic Coke bottle artwork or the debut of the Polar Bears advertising, few brands have made an impact on the world like Coca-Cola.
Marking 125 years since the first Coca-Cola was enjoyed on May 8, 1886, and as a reflection of the brand’s relevance in popular culture since, Assouline, the purveyor of the most coveted fashion and art books worldwide, is releasing Coca-Cola – a book and iPad application celebrating one of the world’s most beloved brands.
This beautifully curated book celebrates a collection of the most iconic Coca-Cola photographs, advertisements, designs and memories from the worlds of film, fashion, art and social history. From James Brown to Run DMC and John F. Kennedy, each turn of the page transports the reader to a different decade.
In a famous quote featured in the book, Andy Warhol provides some insight into how the brand has grown to become an enduring icon. “You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too.”
The book is testament to how Coca-Cola combines tradition and innovation to continue to be relevant to our lives. “We would not have reached this milestone without those who love our brands, because everyone who has enjoyed a Coca-Cola in the past 125 years has played a part in helping us refresh the world,” said Muhtar Kent, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company in the book’s foreword.
Coca-Cola is available in two formats, a Special Limited Edition and a Standard Edition. The Standard Edition is a clothbound hardcover book featuring multilevel embossing and retails for $65. The Special Limited Edition collectible is hand-bound with color plates in an oversized linen clamshell box, retailing for $650. Some of the most iconic images include the sultry “Lady in Red” Brazilian advertisement from 1950 and the 1979 U.S. advertisement featuring legendary football player Mean Joe Greene. The books are available in Assouline Boutiques and select retail stores worldwide or can be ordered online at www.assouline.com.
Coca-Cola is also releasing an iPad app, featuring a digital version of the book as well as bonus animated content. The app will bring to life the iconic images found in the book in a more interactive fashion and is scheduled to launch on June 2nd.
