Book Designs from Bonnierförlagen Win Swedish Industry Recognition

Wednesday 30. March 2011 - Five titles from Bonnierförlagen recognized for exemplary book design by Svensk Bokkonst and a jury of trade and cultural institutions.

Every year the Swedish Svensk Bokkonst institute highlights 25 books as the best examples of Swedish book production for the year. A number of trade and cultural organizations are part of the election committee that decides which books should be included in the year’s catalog – the National Library of Sweden, Nationalmuseum and University College of Arts, Crafts Design are some of the institutions participating. The prizes were awarded at the National Library of Sweden last week.
Included in this year’s winning books are five titles from Bonnierförlagen:
Fattigadel by Agnes von Krusenstjerna, designer Marina Mattson.
Albert Bonniers Förlag.
Osynlig of Paul Auster, designer Nina Ulmaja. Albert Bonniers Förlag.
Ansvaret by Joar Tiberg,
designer Johan Melbi. Albert Bonniers Förlag.
2666 by Roberto Bolaño, designer Nina Ulmaja.
Albert Bonniers Förlag.
Uppväxt med Elvis by Sten Berglind,
designer Mikael Engblom. Bonnier Fakta.
“This kind of industry recognition is important,” says graphic designer Nina Ulmaja, two of whose books were included among the 25. “It provides inspiration and leads to rethinking and improving. And it attracts good designers who see that our list is top notch. For me personally, industry recognition really counts. You can always get recognition, but when push comes to shove it’s picky jury members that count most!”
Svensk Bokkonst was founded in 1933. The selected books are displayed at the Swedish National Library’s annex from March 24- Aug. 31. After that, they will tour Sweden and be shown at the Frankfurt and Leipzig book fairs.
