DuPont Expands in Developing Markets, Launches Operations in Bangladesh
Monday 17. January 2011 - In early Dec. 2010, DuPont India opened a new liaison office in Bangladesh as part of the company's strategy to accelerate growth in developing markets. The newly-opened office will help support the needs of local customers in market segments such as agriculture and food, apparel and textiles, paints and construction, graphics and packaging, infrastructure and renewable energy, safety and protection and other growth sectors.
The DuPont Bangladesh office opening was announced at a launch event in Dhaka, the country’s capital. The event was attended by more than 40 senior government officials, representatives from the U.S. Embassy and the Indian High Commission, and leaders from the country’s central bank, local companies and business associations such as the Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FICCI), India – Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), leading multi-national corporations, electronic and print media, distributors and existing and target potential customers.
“DuPont’s entry in Bangladesh demonstrates the company’s commitment to, and focus on, growing in key developing markets to address local needs,” said Balvinder Kalsi, president – DuPont India. “DuPont’s market-driven innovations in a variety of key segments have the right fit with the needs of the fast-growing Bangladesh economy.”
Specific examples Balvinder shared included areas of agriculture, such as advanced hybrid seeds for corn, rice and mustard, as well as high-efficacy, proprietary crop protection products that help growers improve quality and yields. Another example shared was renewably sourced DuPont Sorona polymer, which can offer exciting options to the country’s world-class textiles industry.
“The direct presence of DuPont in Bangladesh is the first step to make our products and services available for local customers at their doorsteps,” said Showkat Sarkar, country manager – Bangladesh. “As we build and expand our presence in this country, our goal is to work closely with our local customers to better understand the unique market needs here and develop solutions tailored to these needs.”
