HEARST MAGAZINES INTERNATIONAL TO LAUNCH MIDDLE EAST EDITION OF COSMOPOLITAN

Thursday 06. January 2011 - 62nd Edition of World's Best-selling Women's Magazine to Debut March 2011

Cosmopolitan, the world’s leading young women’s magazine, is scheduled to launch in the Middle East in March 2011, today announced Duncan Edwards, president & CEO of Hearst Magazines International (HMI). Cosmopolitan Middle East will be published in partnership with ITP Consumer Publishing, the Middle East’s leading consumer and business magazine publisher, with whom HMI already partners to publish Harper’s Bazaar and Esquire in the region.
The best-selling magazine in its category, Cosmopolitan has 61 international editions, most recently launching in Mongolia. The magazine is published in 32 languages and distributed in more than 100 countries, making it one of the most dynamic brands worldwide.
Cosmopolitan Middle East will be aimed at a young, female audience and will offer its fun and fearless readers information on every aspect of their lives from fashion and beauty, to relationships and romance, to the latest on women’s health and well-being, as well as what’s happening in pop culture and entertainment. The magazine’s engaging, upbeat and informative tone will resonate with the young women of the region.
“The Middle East has one of the youngest populations in the world so introducing a local edition of the world’s best-selling magazine for young women seems an obvious decision. Cosmopolitan is a colossal brand and we are looking forward to launching and developing it in this region,” said Walid Akawi, CEO of ITP Group Holdings, the parent company of ITP Consumer Publishing.
The Cosmopolitan brand was first founded in 1886 in the United States and re-imagined in 1965 by legendary editor Helen Gurley Brown, becoming the powerhouse in women’s magazines it is today. In the 1970s it began reaching the women around the world with its first international editions in the U.K., Australia, Brazil and France.
“We are pleased to be launching Cosmopolitan Middle East and believe it will resonate well with young women in the region,” Edwards said. “As we have had success with ITP Consumer on the Middle East edition of Harper’s Bazaar, we know that they are truly a best-in-class publishing partner.”
Cosmopolitan Middle East will be published in English with an initial print run of 15,000 copies. It will be circulated across the GCC and Lebanon, available at all major retail outlets. The Middle East will be the 62nd edition of Cosmopolitan and the third Hearst brand that ITP has brought to the region.
