McLeland Named Vice President, Human Resources for Sonoco
Thursday 16. December 2010 - Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, today announced that Allan McLeland has been promoted to vice president, Human Resources, effective January 1, 2011, according to Harris E. DeLoach Jr., chairman and chief executive officer.
McLeland, 44, will replace Cindy Hartley, senior vice president, Human Resources, who is retiring effective March 1, 2011. In this new position, McLeland will have global responsibility for the Company’s Human Resources efforts, including staffing, organizational development, diversity, employee relations, compensation and benefits. He will join the Company’s Executive Committee and report to DeLoach.
“Over his 17-year career with Sonoco, Allan has held several important Human Resources management positions in the Company’s Industrial, Consumer and Corporate functions,” said DeLoach. “During that time, Sonoco has earned a reputation for having an extremely effective Human Resources program, particularly in developing leaders. I look forward to Allan continuing our tradition where ‘people build businesses.'”
Prior to this appointment, McLeland was staff vice president of Human Resources, Industrial, and has held several leadership positions within the Company Human Resources Department, each with progressively more responsibility, in the areas of organizational development, staffing, employee relations and compensation. Before joining the Company in 1993, McLeland worked in human resources management with Marriott Corporation in Columbia, S.C. He holds a B.A. in psychology and an MBA in human resources management from the University of South Carolina.
