Trinity Mirror entrusts its plate business to Fujifilm

Friday 26. November 2010 - Trinity Mirror Printing Ltd chooses Fujifilm to fulfil all UK plate requirements

Trinity Mirror Printing Ltd, the print services arm of one of the UK’s largest newspaper publishers, Trinity Mirror, with over 260 titles within its portfolio, has signed a new contract with Fujifilm to fulfil 100% of its plate requirements in the UK. This builds on the companies’ already successful partnership that stems from a previous seven-year plate deal which has just come to an end. With immediate effect, Trinity Mirror Printing Ltd will be using Fujifilm’s Brillia LP-NN2, Brillia LP-NNV and FNN-J plates across all eight of its UK sites.
Rupert Middleton, group manufacturing director at Trinity Mirror Printing Ltd, comments, “We have had excellent service from Fuji for the last seven years. Their reliability, quality and productivity have been second-to-none. We are delighted to extend that partnership.
“As our business develops, we want the best products in the industry at our disposal, underpinned by outstanding customer service. We believe that the products, support and technological-savvy that Fujifilm brings to the table will stand us in good stead for any future directions Trinity Mirror might take.”
Keith Dalton, director at Fujifilm Graphic Systems in the UK, adds: “It goes without saying that retaining a newspaper publishing house like Trinity Mirror is very important to us, and we are very pleased that Fujifilm has been chosen to continue to provide Trinity Mirror’s plate volume requirements. We always endeavour to ensure that we provide our customers with plate technologies to meet their specific and changing needs, something which I know Trinity Mirror has experience of. Last year’s launch of the Brillia PRO-VN newspaper plate means that we now have one of the widest and most environmentally-friendly range of solutions for our newspaper customers to choose from.”
One of the sites covered by the deal is Glasgow where Fujifilm recently played an instrumental role in the successful conversion of that site from green laser FD-YAG to violet imaging technology on their Krause LS Jet 1 platesetters. This change has resulted in increased platesetter productivity, higher quality plate output and the capability to switch to Fujifilm’s Brillia PRO-VN lo-chem plate in the future.
The launch of Brillia PRO-VN in 2009 was part of wider strategy to introduce products that have a lower environmental impact, and further emphasised Fujifilm’s commitment to sustainability. Alongside its traditional products for the newspaper industry, Fujifilm now offers one of the widest ranges of plate production solutions dedicated to helping printers reduce their environmental footprint.
