Dominos new D-Series combines small footprint with big benefits
Thursday 25. November 2010 - New i-Tech intelligent Technology enhances flexibility, reliability
Domino, global leader in product identification and traceability solutions, has introduced its new D-Series range of industrial scribing lasers with the launch of two initial models at the Salon de lEmballage exhibition in Paris.
The Domino D120i (10-watt output) and D320i (30-watt output) feature a new scan head with a significantly smaller footprint that saves space and makes it simple to integrate the lasers in the production line. Both incorporate Dominos i-Tech intelligent Technology, designed to make production lines lower maintenance, lower cost and more efficient.
Ingo Waldeck, Domino laser product manager says, “The D-Series is already recognised as a high-performance, high-quality solution for applying variable alphanumeric text, graphics and 2D Data matrix codes onto plastic, glass, paper and cartons. These credentials are enhanced by the integration of i-Tech principles, which make for easier integration and operation. Dominos intelligent Technology allows users increased efficiency by working smarter. So, for users seeking a fast, high-performance method of coding with minimal consumables usage, the D-Series is a really compelling proposition.”
The new lasers also meet users increasing demands for products that follow sound environmental practices. The D120i and D320i are smaller and 20% lighter than their respective predecessors, which translates into reduced transport costs, and both feature automatic temperature-controlled fan cooling to save energy whenever possible.
More flexible for easy integration
A re-designed, more compact i-Tech scan head makes the D120i and D320i easy to install into a wide range of production line configurations, especially where space is at a premium. Connected to the laser tube on a multi-position mount, the scan head can be rotated through 90-degree steps, and full-length integrated mounting rails on both sides of the laser module combine with the smaller footprint to provide simple, easy installation.
Added protection enhances reliability
The new design of the D120i and D320i increases protection for all components, which in turn enhances reliability under all production conditions. For the harshest production environments, both are available in an IP65 version and are constructed from aluminium and stainless steel to protect the laser tube from water and dust.
The controllers robust design minimises the number of moving parts and allows it to be located beneath the production line, away from the laser, or rack mounted to save space and reduce the likelihood of accidental damage. The Domino DPX fume extraction range integrates with the coders to provide a safe, clean working environment.
Secure pharma option
The D120i and D320i are available in pharma versions that comply with 21-CFR part 11 and GAMP. Features include unique user passwords and change reporting, and coders can be supplied with validation packages to ensure systems are tested and proven to the highest standards. The D-Series is also compatible with the pan-industry Codentify solution, which prints a unique 12-digit code to provide product authentication and enable fiscal recovery.
Simple operation and maintenance increases productivity
Both new models are designed to be simple and flexible to operate. Operators can manage the coder using Dominos intuitive remote TouchPanel, or via a web-based interface running on any industrial PC. For ultimate flexibility, the new D-Series can also be controlled through customers production line interfaces.
To speed job set-up, message changes are instantly updated in the system, and production data can be uploaded or downloaded from the controller either via USB or an Ethernet network.
