PRINT QUALITY SYSTEM HEADS KOMORI RETROFIT LIST

Wednesday 10. November 2010 - Komori counts press monitoring, management system upgrades and colour controls amongst retrofit options for its sheet and web presses.

One of the most significant and beneficial retrofits, is the Komori Print Quality Assessment System (PQA-S). This monitors and inspects sheets through a high definition camera located in the press delivery unit. The system creates a digital memory of the pass sheet and every consequent sheet is compared against the memorised data, the system detecting such faults as mis-register, ink, water and oil drops and hickeys.

Any defective sheets are shown on the PQA-S monitor, which also indicates the location of the defect on the sheet, the system also inserting a tab in the delivery pile to enable the operator to remove the defective sheet. There is little chance of even the busiest operator not becoming aware of defect detection, because the system also incorporates a loud audio warning and a highly visible flashing light!

Although Komori’s PQA-S was initially launched on Komori multi-colour Lithrone perfectors, it is now also available for straight presses.

Nampak Healthcare in Bradford, UK, the largest in the company’s Healthcare Division employing 210 people, prints cartons and patient information leaflets for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, and recently invested in the PQA-S, retrofitting it to its latest six colour Komori Lithrone S40.

Gerard Harford, Nampak Healthcare Regional Director UK, explains the benefits of the Komori retrofit:”The PQA-S allows on-the-run quality monitoring through an inspection camera while our cartons are being printed. This enables us to provide customers with 100% quality control of their products. Our investment in this system is a further illustration of our commitment to first class customer service and to ensuring that we always deliver the highest quality carton print.”

Steve Turner General Sales Manager – Sheetfed Products for Komori UK added:”It is a pre-requisite that pharmaceutical packaging is in perfect condition at the point of sale and the installation of the PQA-S system on Nampak’s latest Komori Lithrone S40 press enables every carton to be automatically inspected in- line, even when the press is running at full speed.”
