Avery Dennison Helps Build Elementary School in Rural China
Friday 22. October 2010 - Project Hope donation supports rural education with new schoolhouse for Jiangshi Elementary School in Anhui China
With warm smiles, the children of Jiangshi Elementary School look forward to moving into a new schoolhouse being built with support from Avery Dennison. Avery Dennison chose to help the school in Anhui province after considering numerous rural schools to find where its US$60,000 (RMB 400,000) Project Hope donation could do the most good.
It was the warm smiles and enthusiasm for learning that Avery Dennison found at Jiangshi Elementary that convinced the labeling and packaging industry leader to select it as the first Avery Dennison Foundation-funded Hope School. A public service project organized by the China Youth Development Foundation, Project Hope aims to ensure that all China’s children have access to education.
“Your donation is like a warming charcoal in snow season,” said Mr. Ke, headmaster of Jiangshi Elementary School. “On behalf of our 150 students and their parents, I would like to express our appreciation to Avery Dennison. Your donation shows your corporate citizenship spirit and makes our students’ future brighter.”
Avery Dennison announced its cooperation with Project Hope in March 2010. With site preparation work now underway at Jiangshi Elementary School, the new schoolhouse is expected to be ready for the children in the spring 2011 semester.
