Screen-CGS Pact Bundles ORIS Color Management with Truepress Jet520
Tuesday 05. October 2010 - An agreement between Screen (USA) and CGS Publishing Technologies International will help reduce ink costs and enhance color fidelity for projects printed on the Screen Truepress Jet520 inkjet web press. Under the agreement, ORIS Press Matcher // Web with Color Stabilizer will be included with every Truepress Jet520 sold by Screen (USA) in North America and South America, effective immediately.
Months of intensive testing by Screen (USA) culminated in the companys decision to add ORIS color management as a standard component of the Truepress Jet520. The combination brings significant ink savings and color control for full variable inkjet printing on multiple stocks, according to Tom Leibrandt, Screen (USA) print on demand product manager.
“Decreasing the total volume of ink used and improving drying time were our chief goals,” Leibrandt said. “The tests showed that ink usage was reduced by up to 15 percent while maintaining gray balance and improving color reproduction. The overall improvement in color reproduction is an added benefit to our customers.”
“The ink savings we measured are substantial, but thats only the beginning,” added Bruce Brown, CGS director of strategic business. “With less coverage, you can run lighter, less-porous stocks and not worry about drying time or offsetting. Even more important, with ORIS, the print color quality is even better and more consistent. We achieved results that, in my opinion, would be consistent with G7 or GRACoL compliance.”
ORIS Press Matcher earned the 2009 InterTech Technology Award for color management innovation on digital presses. By applying CGS patented color management approach, ORIS Press Matcher has made it possible for many printers to achieve G7 certification on digital presses.
With more than 200 presses sold worldwide, the Truepress Jet520 is the industrys premier color variable inkjet web press. It can function as a high-volume variable data printer and a high-speed on-demand printer. Full-color books, newspapers, direct mail and transpromotional materials are just some of its many print applications.
“The inclusion of ORIS will broaden the appeal of the Truepress Jet520 in those applications,” Leibrandt said, “and add new ones where the demand for color control is more acute.”
Screen (USA) will demonstrate an ORIS-enabled Truepress Jet520 at Graph Expo in booth #1637, October 3-6 at Chicagos McCormick Place.
