MARK E. ALDAM NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, DEPUTY GROUP HEAD OF HEARST NEWSPAPERS
Friday 26. March 2010 - Mark E. Aldam has been named executive vice president and deputy group head of Hearst Newspapers. The announcement was made by Frank A. Bennack, Jr., vice chairman and chief executive officer of Hearst Corporation, and Steven R. Swartz, president of Hearst Newspapers.
Most recently, Aldam, 46, was senior vice president of Hearst Newspapers with responsibility for eight of Hearsts properties: Albany Times Union in New York, Hearsts four properties in Fairfield County, Connecticut(Connecticut Post in Bridgeport, The Advocate in Stamford, Greenwich Time and The News-Times in Danbury, in addition to their related weeklies), Michigans Huron Daily Tribune and Midland Daily News, and Edwardsville Intelligencer in Illinois. He has also overseen circulation operations for Hearst Newspapers. Aldam will continue in those roles and will remain based in Albany while taking on the additional responsibility of helping to oversee overall newspaper group operations.
“Mark has distinguished himself in every assignment he has undertaken for us at Hearst,” Bennack said. “He will play a pivotal role going forward as we chart a new course for our newspapers and the newspaper industry.”

Aldam joined Hearst in 2006 as publisher of the Albany Times Union, where he served for three years. He was formerly senior vice president/chief operating officer of The Hartford Courant, owned by the Tribune Company. Aldam joined the Courant in 1994 as advertising director and was named senior vice president/chief operating officer in 2005. Prior to that, he spent almost four years as senior vice president/general manager of the newspaper. Before going to Hartford, he served as chief financial officer/assistant treasurer of Eagle Publishing Company in Pittsfield, Mass.
